Re: Firmware 6.14.2a4N_UNI causing ADSL drop outs?

quick update on my experience. have had 3 drop outs in 4 days having rolled back to the v5 firmware. one happened this morning @ 0230, another was yesterday morning @ approx 0300, with the other @ 0400 in the morning. i was asleep every time so wasn't bothered by any of these. it's much, much better than what was happening on the v6 firmware where it was dropping 5/6 times during 'primetime', i.e. evening time.

now before this whole thing started i was getting uptimes of around a month without it dropping. so it looks as though there's more to this than meets the eye. i can live with the connection dropping when i'm asleep, but it's still not good enough. there's plenty of people who work thru the night / make skype calls / play games etc. it needs fixing!

Have you checked that the firmware has not been updated again or that DLM training is running?

definitely still on the 5.27.1a4N firmware.

i called sky approx 14 days about this and they said they would run DLM then -(i hadn't seen this thread and the firmware issue at that time). i've just had a look in 'my sky' and it says this: Testing on your broadband connection began on 24/01/2013 and will be completed within 10 days.

I've no idea why it's started again? I haven't spoken to sky around that date and I rolled back the firmware after that date so no idea why it's started up again.

Would DLM cause a nightly disconnection?

      thanks.

DLM would cause a resync in the early hours of the morning while it is line testing. I think that accounts for your drop outs.

i didn't know that, so thanks for that. i guess with that being the case, the v6 firmware is completely to blame.

Scubbie is it possible for you to check and see if the firmware is distributed to a schedule based on Router MAC codes? If so maybe once updated it will not be done again, so those that revert to V5 will stay reverted.

Re: Firmware 6.14.2a4N_UNI causing ADSL drop outs?

For public updates I don't know the process used. Currently is has been difficult getting information from the team dealing with these updates, but some information is coming back through the feeds.

Just a little general background info: Sky's on-line team are working to be more open. Things have improved hugely over the past year and I am sure the current comms issues with the router development team will be improved.

I can raise this with the on-line team. Hopefully this will result in things improving, but I suspect it will be a long-term project.

Re: Firmware 6.14.2a4N_UNI causing ADSL drop outs?

I've just (about half an hour ago) had a call from Sky support confirming that the ADSL dropouts I've been experiencing for the past two or three weeks have been linked to the latest version of the firmware. Apparently my first disconnection was one minute after the reboot following the firmware update and have been pretty frequent since then. The guy from support confirmed that they've linked around 200 cases of intermittent connections to a firmware problem and they are gathering evidence for the firmware devs to provide a patch. (So pretty much what we know/suspected).

Annoying as the disconnections are it was at least good to have someone get in contact to tell me they knew what the problem was and that they would cancel the Openreach appointment that they'd previously insisted I had to have. They've also re-profiled my connection (the disconnects had caused DLM to drop my speed from about 11Mbps to 8) and have said that if the factory reset they asked me to perform while on the phone didn't work then they'd send out a replacement router.

there's a response from sky on the other forum which states that they have 'halted the firmware release'.

I've got fed up of the disconnects, so plugged my old router back in until they sort it.
