      My Router Stats

      Hi,

I have just come back to Sky for my TV, Talk and Broadband after leaving VM.

My phone line and broadband have been activated today.

I have got the new Sky Hub and its a nice router, but after looking at the stats I have noticed my noise margin is low on the downstream.

      Router Statistics:

      Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4093 kbps 606 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.5 dB 17.9 dB
Noise Margin 7.5 dB 19.19 dB

I have checked for noise on the line by using a corded phone and is all clear, and I am using a Filtered Faceplate that I got from ADSL Nation, this has been in place when I was with Sky before.

I know I will be on a 10 day training when DLM starts which can take up to 3 days to start.

Do you think there is a problem here?

Thanks for any help again as I have posted on here before and always have the highest respect for your help!

I would think you will end up with about 10-11Mb down and 1.1Mb up. Let DLM do its thing.

      Re: My Router Stats

At one time your figures would have looked bad, but the way DLM works now I don't think there is anything to worry about. I have an idea that the line now kicks off with a very low power setting which DLM gradually increases until it reaches a happy medium. I could be wrong but that is the only thing I can think of which would account for new lines starting off with a much lower noise margin than they used to.

I think DLM starts off at 4Mb and increases the speed every 1 to 2 days until the line gets unstable.

      Re: My Router Stats

      Hi again.

This is an update to the thread.

My router has rebooted at around 3 this morning and now my stats have changed.

      My router stats:

      Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7004 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 36.5 dB 17.9 dB
Noise Margin 7.3 dB 13.13 dB

Looking good me thinks, and as you mentioned ‘Istme’, about the noise margin starting off low and making you think there is a problem, and on this occasion the downstream noise margin hasn't really changed, just by .2dB. The upload has changed a lot more.
So with DLM - does it change the frequency or voltage? For the noise margin? With the way it works after what you put in your thread.

      Re: My Router Stats

DLM used to start profiles on auto INP, it now starts them on 2 symbol INP. It's to do with noise protection being lifted.
