      Re: Interference Issue

Just been running RouterStats for about an hour & noticed that my NM dropped suddenly from 6.X to 0 dB, once during this period, I haven't used the phone during this time, only thing I have used near that time is the Microwave but just tried it again and no noticeable drops happened during that time.

Edit: Forgot to mention we do have 2 sets of Christmas lights in the window about a metre away from the router, been reading they produce noise, but this has been happening for a few weeks even before we put those up so not sure where these bursts of noise is coming from

Been reading this, looks like it could be SHINE & something that I doubt I can easily eliminate - http://support.zen.co.uk/kb/Knowledg...REIN-and-SHINE

What other sort of things could make it drop suddenly like that?

It didn't fully disconnect, no resync as my uptime on the router still reports 24+ hours, no info on the router log, here's my current stats.

You may wish to read up a little more about REIN: ::. Kitz - REIN .::

It is possible that street lights, traffic signals, faulty electrical equipment in someone else's home or perhaps a neighbour's Microwave is interfering.

The link above gives you a radio frequency to listen in on. If you have a suitable radio, give it a try.

      Re: Interference Issue

Thanks for the link, will give it a read, also I'll try to get my hands on a radio.

Edit: Quick question if anybody knows, are these types of occurrences likely to kick in DLM again if frequent enough even though my router is reporting no actual disconnection/re-sync?

One favourite is the CH pump, or any other motor that causes a sudden surge. One user reported that his wife's treadmill caused a lot of interference. Another possible source is the starter in strip lighting, if it buzzes at all when you switch on, change it. Even the PSU in a PC has been known to cause a problem, as do the type used in phone chargers etc.

Xmas lights will not cause a problem unless they are the type that flash on and off.

Whether DLM kicks in depends on how many errors are being generated, not so much actual drop outs..

The Xmas lights we have don't flash, don't have any strip lighting, actually had no large spikes yet, was on the cordless phone before as well, no adverse effects were seen, will mention we do have a laptop within a metre of the router running off the mains can those PSU pose problems too?

I've left RouterStats running since about 9am today, NM was at about 6.9 gradually lowering down to 6.3 now but I guess that's kinda normal due to it being dark and street lights etc.

Any spikes/drops I have monitored seem to be between 7-9pm.

Thanks for those will take a look.

      Re: Interference Issue

      Hello again,

Line was stable throughout yesterday, but strangely my phone line went off at around 1am yesterday for about an hour or so, the Sky router still said it had a connection, my uptime stats didn't reset but nothing would load, I know this has happened at least once or twice in November, I remember in early November the Sky Service Status site had a amber light & reported my exchange was affected and this would likely be resolved late November, just wondering whether OpenReach engineers carry out work at exchanges in early hours of the morning sometimes or could there be something else at fault here?

      Thanks

      Re: Interference Issue

I would hope that when a new piece of kit or a major update is actioned, that such work is carried out in the early hours.

This would have the lowest impact on the customer base.

However DLM is also busy during the early hours. The window when DLM will reconfigure lines for Sky is between 1am and 6am. Most is completed between 2am and 3am.

Yeah that would make the most sense , probably still doing some work somewhere even though Sky reported the exchange problem was resolved, noticed my Downstream NM has improved slightly, used to hang around 6.9 during the daytime, now it's hanging around 7.3 dunno if that is a result of it but any improvement is welcome however small, guess I shouldn't worry, things seem stable for now.
