      Strange Phonecalls Killing My Broadband Connection

      Hello,

      Recently, i've been recieving phonecalls from strange numbers that either ring once then hang up, or when i pick up the phone there is no answer. In either case, these numbers result in my internet connection being turned off, and when it comes back on the speed is greatly reduced and my connection goes on and off intermittently for some time. I was able to bring my internet speed back to normal by reseting the router by going to http://192.168.0.1 but once again the phone rang once and broadband was ruined again. I reset the router again, but that has done no good.

      The numbers that rang are 447854856923 and 441252670444

      Can anyone tell me why this might be happening?

      P.S. I am on Sky Unlimited Broadband with an optimum speed of 3mb

      Sounds like you need to replace your filter

      These are calls from a call centre which ring a selection of numbers then when one answers the rest are dumped. This is supposed to be illegal but still goes on. It is prefixed by the 44 UK code which is probably to help disguise the number, the second is - 01252670444 - who calls me from 01252670444? 1/3

      That does not really matter though, where the call comes from has nothing to do with your connection dropping. Try what Shonk suggested and if that does not cure it try plugging the phone into a double filter, if that helps you need to buy a good quality filter.

      Hi guys. Thanks for responding.

      I had a look on My Sky before under the broadband section, and it tells me that my internet connection is currently being tested. This began on the 1st of this month, and is expected to last for 10 days. It also tells me to expect a less than perfect connection during this process. This would explain my recent internet problems.

      As Shonk has said, your filter is fried and needs replacing. Incoming calls have made your connection unstable causing DLM to kick in. If the fault isn't resolved, dlm could leave you with a far from optimum connection!

      problem usually first filter second cabling next telephone (particularly cordless phones) after that phone socket or line, need to find fault quickly or dlm will cap line down to try to eliminate issue

      It was the formatting of the sentence that threw me, it took me a couple of passes to make sense of it.
