I think dlm has stopped and i could squeeze a bit more speed?

I have dlm running for about a week now with the router rebooting every morning at 4.15am.
Woke this morning to find that I have not had a reboot so guessing the dlm has finished early?? I I have checked on my sky and they have not given me a download and upload speed as of yet.

I have my router plugged into the test socket all the time. The dlm started me on 18000 and moved me up to 19200ish but then stayed around the 18000 mark and just moved the snr up and down.

My stats are at the moment

      Speed 18008
      Attenuation 20db
      Noise 3.5db

With my old isp I always got around 20mb with a line attenuation off 22 and Snr of 7

Do you think dlm has finished and should I be getting more from my line?

      Thanks

your done unless you can improve your internal wiring

Why would they put me on a 3.5 profile if I can get more and have a stable line on 7db.never had a problem with drop outs etc on my previous isp for 2.5 years. Would make more sense if sky had put me on the 7db profile and kept me at that speed. My internal wiring is fine. No phone used straight into the test socket of the master socket and no ring wire connected and no extensions.

I've seen a number of posts on here that say DLM may not resync every night, but if you've not resync'd for 72, then it's probably finished.

Wait until your speeds are on your MySky page and if they haven't increased any more, phone Sky and see if they will manually re-configure your line.

Just a small, but important point, you have only supplied half the information in those stats.

It is very important to see both the downstream and upstream figures together.

As for why you are getting a slower connection now than previously, there are many practical reasons.

Your line is now going to Sky's kit, not where it went before. If the kit is further from where it entered the exchange than before and BTO are using cheap copper coated aluminium cable, which is routed past something that is causing interference, then it will cause some problems.

Also often BTO takes the opportunity to change the cabling between your home and the exchange. This too can mean that you may now be using the cheaper copper coated aluminium cable.

BTO tends to use this cheaper cable now because of the high rate of theft for pure copper cable.

The irony! UK superfast broadband now going backwards as BTO are using aluminium wires! Maybe they should just quicken up the rollout of fibre

The real problem is the rate of theft of Copper cable across the globe.

Someone somewhere may think that it is a victimless crime when then nick the cable and don't die in the process, but someone has to pay for it. You could blame some of the line rental charges on this too.

Lives have been put at risk on many occasions because of these thefts. Coastguard radio has been wiped out. Trains have been delayed. Whole areas have lost their telephone and broadband services for days or weeks.

Those figures show things in a completely different light.

It shows that the is room for improvement still in your connection, but that DLM will have to do the work.

Basically the noise margin on both the up and down sides can be reduced to below 7dB provided that the line can support it, but manually it can only be set to 7dB.

Your Line Attenuation on the downstream side is 20dB. From what others have posted with the new DLM software, you may get 20mb. However there is no guarantee.
