      Invisible Sky Router

      My Sky activation has completed today. There is however one slight problem. Sky did not inform me of the activation date and have neglected to send me a router.

      I am an experienced IT professional and a regular reader of the message boards. I was aware of some bad user experiences but decided that if i stayed with virgin for much longer i would lose my sanity and my hair!

      I have my own belkin wireless router which i would like to configure to temporarily use the line whilst my router arrives. I spoke to the customer service department (got through in less than a minute) and they informed me that some routers will not work with the sky service.

      Could anyone verify this and ideally supply me with some DNS addresses and additional config. I have a username and password so i would appreciate a little help otherwise it is five days before my router arrives.

      HI yoda

      I am afraid that the information in the tech section, although ver informative, will not help you as the first thing you need is your sky branded router without it, you cannot use the suggestions in the tech section.

      Your username and password is "hidden" in the Sky router (I believe it is constructed from the routers physical address and an unknown algorithm). It is not the same as the Sky username and password used for accessing the portal etc.

      No Sky router, no valid password.

      I had the very same problem and after a phone call to Sky both the letter and the router turned up two days later so if you are lucky your router might turn up on Monday as mine was dispatched the day after my phone call.

      The user name & password you have..... are these the ones you use for the sky website? because if so this won't be the same as the ones hidden in the sky router which are use for the router connection.
