      Super Slow Connection super high ping, Help please!

      Ive been getting super slow download speeds and then super high pings but i dont know what the problem is, im pretty sure its on my end, ive tried different filters, changed the wireless channel and tried plugging it in (although plugging it in can cure it, ill then unplug it the speed will still be high but then it will go back down) ive called sky but when im talking to a different person each time it gets a bit frustrating. all help will be welcome

      To be honest I think you are syncing too high for your attenuation, so your line is generating errors. Reboot your router and see what happens to the download speed and noise margin. The speed should come down and the noise margin should go up. You are not using an application to artificially lower your noise margin are you?

      Sorry, these are exactly the same stats as you posted before showing an up time of 1:19:44. If you had rebooted it would show an uptime of a few minutes at most. Switch the power off to your router for a few minutes then switch it on again.

      That's better. It shows your line has been set by DLM to use a noise margin of 3 db. This will increase the sync speed but on many lines will actually decrease the throughput, due to errors being generated. Your best bet would be to call Sky and ask them to reduce your speed as it is not stable. You are better with a 6-7 mb connection which is usable rather than 8mb which is unstable.

      Before you do that, plug into your Test socket (link below) using only the ADSL cable supplied by Sky. You are looking for a substantial increase in the noise margin. If you get that post back with the stats before calling Sky.

      thanks for your reply ive tried your suggestions as you can see and they turned it down to 4.5mbps and i still get hig pings and about 0.15mbps to all my devices regardless of being wired or wireless.

      I'm sorry, I don't know what else to suggest. They have lowered your speed by more than was necessary, so it should be stable. All you can do is get back on to them and ask them to run DLM on your line again. This should set it to its best speed with a delay of 8.

      Can you go here Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester and do a speed test and post your result. With ethernet you should be getting around 4mbps.

      got an openreach engineer out in the end, he replaced parts outside of the property, speeds increased and hopefully if i cross my fingers it will stay like it getting around 7.8meg to the router so all should be good for the time being
