      Slow speeds in Rossendale?

Hello, is anyone else in the Rossendale area (near Rawtenstall) getting really slow speeds recently?

We are supposed to be on 16mb (actually about 13mb) but now it is at around 7mb according to speedtest.net.

Connections are getting slower, downloads now take hours rather than minutes.

      Stats are as follows:

      System Up Time 01:24:57
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 751214 818552 0 53983 125467 01:23:45
      LAN 10M/100M 599239 363997 0 102335 13236 01:24:52
      WLAN 11M/54M 249913 526717 0 25309 47603 01:24:43

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16380 kbps 1118 kbps
Line Attenuation 23 db 5.5 db
Noise Margin 7 db 8 db

      Router info:
      DG834G running Firmware Version V4.01.40 - DGTeam Rev. 0849
      ADSL Firmware Version 7.03.01.66
      Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 16380 kbps (an obvious fib
      UpStream Connection Speed 1118 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38
      Network Type PPPoA

I have asked my son to try and log when this happens but it has been happening for the past few weeks, a few times a week.
We have recently had FTC cabinets installed in this area.
The router is connected direct into the test socket via a filter, no extensions and only a single wireless phone base station connected to the filter.

Rebooting the router sometimes improves it, other times it does not.

      Any suggestions please?

Is this ongoing or is it only happening during peak hours? It is possible your exchange may be one of those with congestion problems. Put your post code in here to see if your exchange is effected.

looks like its ongoing, router say 16mb, speedtest.net say about 7mb.
      its usually 13+

exchange checker say its not affected.

Stats are certainly different to here from Jan.

      Re: Slow speeds in Rossendale?

Your stats have not changed that much really, a slight increase in the attenuation, but the speed and noise margin are still quite healthy. There are quite a few who have reported a reduction in speed when fibre was installed in their area. I don't know whether this is due to connections being disturbed by the engineers or whether the actual throughput of the exchange is be increased, thus causing problems. It may be something entirely unconnected with these. Is fibre available to Sky users in your area? If it is this may have put extra stress on the Sky pipe out of the exchange, slowing everyone down.

Hello, yes fibre has just been installed in a box 50 yards down the road and BT have been knitting in the cabinets over the road.
(The kids are begging for me to get it).

However, it seems to be back to normal today.
