      VPN In With Iphone?

      Hi All,

I want to VPN to my home PC with my Iphone while I am out at work.

This is what I have tried but no luck so far getting a connection.

On the Phone, I set the following:

      PPTP
      Description "Home"
Server (Tried IP of my DNS with DynDNS.org) and also (The one after going to "Whats My IP" on my PC.)
      ACCOUNT (Username on my PC)
      RSA Secure ID OFF
      Password (Of PC Account)
      Encryption Level "Auto"
      Send All Traffic "ON"
      Ptoxy "OFF"

In the Roter I set the following

      Under Firewall Rules

      Inbound Services Set To
      Service "VPN PPTP (TCP:1723)"
      Action "ALLOW Always"
Send to LAN Server (IP from looking at attached devices on router)
      WAN Users "ANY"

All I get is an error on the phone that says

"The PPTP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting again. If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your administrator"

Why not consider installing some FTP Server software?

Before you do though, what kind of files are you looking to access? Any documents, etc., would benefit from the use of FTP. If you are looking to share music, films or pictures then look at Skifta.

Another option is Dropbox. Using my Android phone with Dropbox I can access any documents in my Dropbox folder. I have also set it up to upload any photos to my Dropbox account when it is connected to WiFi. I could of set it up to upload the photos via its 3G connection, but this could be expensive as I haven't got an unlimited broadband on my phone.

For the Android Skifta is quite good for allowing you to stream music, video or pictures when away from home. Hopefully someone will confirm whether it is suitable for the iPhone. Otherwise something like Bonjour will be required. iMediaShare is also a nice app, but requires you to be on the same LAN as the PC or NAS.

As for the remote control of your TV, there is a raft of applications available. Start by searching by your TV's brand. You may need to enable the feature on your TV too. They either use your LAN to communicate with the TV or Bluetooth.

      Hi,

Its control of my PC, not TV.
The idea is we can check CAD drawings on the PC and also use the internet of the PC as some of the websites are blocked for use inside the company so VPN to my pc will allow internet via the PC.
I set up a VPN on the windows 7 pc, also turned off the firewall but still nothing (

      Re: VPN In With Iphone?

      Hi,

The only way I know to test is put the details in my iphone and it tries to connect and just says" The PPTP-VPN server did not respond. Try reconnecting again. If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your administrator"

I have no way of testing if the PC VPN is working or the iphone VPN is working ????
