      Broadband problem in Thurrock area?

Both myself and my MIL couldn't connect to the internet on Wednesday (we live about a mile apart). Whereas mine came back the next day, hers did not.

I've read about issues in Kent so wondered if it has moved north of the Thames too! Anybody else in Thurrock area have problems this week?

Just to be clear, her Windows 7 computer says Connected but No Internet Access. Other devices (XP laptop, iPhone, BB) also show connection but don't actually work when tried. Router Internet light is not lit. All troubleshooting/repairs don't work and eventually always end up with Contact your ISP. A wifi dongle *does* work on her PC, so more proof her PC is not the problem.

She'll be ringing Sky tomorrow (nobody likes that) so hopefully they will be able to push something out to fix it. Yeah, sure.....

Most of the time, an exchange outtage would leave the internet light showing solid amber (or red if a sagem 2504n).

Is your Mother in law's phone service fine?

Connect the router to the test socket with a different filter, using just the short dsl cable that Sky sent. If the internet light is still off, then call Sky with the router at the test socket and see what action needs to be taken.

Thanks for that, I'll try it over the weekend and leave it set up like that for when she calls Sky.

Everything else, including telephone, works just fine.

She's already been on to Sky for past hour (she does like to dive straight in, can't wait awhile!) and they think it is a line problem so are arranging for an engineer to come round.

Maybe just a coincidence, but my connection was also down for hours on Wednesday and is fine again now, I live in Yorkshire. Not sure if its related to the exchange side of things, but Wednesday was the IPv6 transfer, possibly some exchange equipment may have had issues?

Sounds feasible! Maybe she wasn't reconnected because they had no record of her service. When she rang Sky they said she didn't have broadband...

They are probably correct. No internet light usually means no ADSL on the line. If the exchange had problems there is a good chance her ADSL has been disconnected, this seems to happen quite often after a major phone fault.
