      Question Sky Connect question

Hi, We have just switched to SkyC but since we are not in the Sky broadband area with are stuck with Connect and its 40GB download allowance.

With the recent release of Windows 8 Release preview I was hoping to download it however I have been told I can only download 1.3GB per day and if we exceed this allowance we will have our speed throttled back during peak times and weekends.
Firstly I would like to know if this is true, and if so how do other Sky Connect users download large files? such as the Windows 8 Preview (3.3GB)

      Thanks
      Liam

Welcome to one of the biggest gripes against Sky Broadband Connect.

Generally we suggest that people check with SamKnows to see if there is another ISP who has their equipment in the local exchange and to sign up with them. If this isn't possible, then consider a service such as PlusNet.

I did hear that improvements had been agreed with regards to Sky's Anytime+ service where such large chucks could be downloaded without an immediate penalty, but continued large downloads would still result in your connection being throttle back.

Hi, Thanks I went onto SamKnows and it does actually say there is Sky LLU at my exchange (Huddersfield - MYHUD), Yet when we signed up last month we was told we could only have Connect, So would I actually be able to get LLU or is there another reason why I can't have it?

      Thanks
      Liam

Indeed Huddersfield does have Sky's LLU service. I know this without checking SamKnows.

When the Sky kit is full, they put people on the Connect product.

You'll be on the waiting list to be moved to their kit once a space becomes available, but you could be waiting anything from weeks to months or longer. It depends on either other people leaving Sky or Sky installing additional equipment in order to create spare capacity.

In either case you are not going to get a guaranteed answer from Sky as neither information is available. I know that some local exchanges have been upgraded recently to house Sky kit and the FTTC is also available in some other exchanges near to you, so there has been plenty of activity locally. This does not mean that they won't sort out this issue though, just a case of when.

Hi, Just had a long call with Sky and now they are going to change us to the unlimited LLU service within the next 14 days!
Not sure why the last sales person couldn't change us to that but least have got it changed now, Any idea if our speed will increase, we currently get around 2MBPS

      Thanks
      Liam

Your attenuation is 46.5 and mine is slightly higher. I get roughly 7 meg so you should see about 3 times faster (at least) than the current sync once on LLU
