Hello guys, got the following stats from the test socket

      DSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3392 kbps 411 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.0 dB 31.5 dB
Noise Margin 8.7 dB 18.0 dB

Not sure what they mean though - the actual browsing speed is still awful though.

      Re: The problems begin!

      Hello
The problems have started up again, so I've connected the router to the test socket, and so far there has been no disconnections whatsoever, and the speed seems a little improved.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3008 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.0 dB 31.5 dB
Noise Margin 8.2 dB 16.0 dB

Not sure if they mean anything to anyone, but I know the noise was 15.0db when connected to a normal socket.

      Re: The problems begin!

Is the Sky tv box connected to any telephone socket? If so, is there a two way splitter connected to the telephone socket? - sky tv boxes are connected to the sockets ( 2 boxes connected to the one with the router )
I am pretty sure most of your problems come from here. The Sky box can give a lot of problems if not connected through a high quality filter, which the Sky ones are not. The fact that you have 2 connected to the one filter makes it even worse.

Your best solution is to buy fit and use a filtered faceplate, alternately buy a pair of high quality filters.

      Either one of these
BT NTE-2005 ADSL Faceplate for NTE5, 6 Way Version

      or one of these
      BT/Openreach VDSL/ADSL Premium Faceplate

The second is the latest available and although designed for Fibre works very well for ADSL. It has the additional advantage of not requiring any wires to be moved.

      Re: The problems begin!

      Thanks for that,
It's been kept in the test socket overnight, and the performance today has been pretty poor, the stats from the router and the browsing speeds do not match atall - took me about 5 minutes to get into this page alone.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3008 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.0 dB 31.5 dB
Noise Margin 7.7 dB 16.0 dB

I'm looking into getting those in the link you sent, to try and get things sorted

If you are having issues loading the GUI on the router, could I suggest that you back up any customised settings which you may have made, also write them down/screen dump them.

Once this has been done, press the reset button for 10 seconds (with the power switched on) to reset the router. See if things work better BEFORE making any further changes to the GUI.

If there is an appreciable difference, could you attempt to restore the settings from the file first. Check things again. If all is fine then great. If not, reset the router again and type the settings in manually.

Just to clarify too, we've got rid of a multiroom subscription, so only 1 box is now connected to the phoneline.

I would disconnect that too, just plug it in if you want to use interactive services, like box office.

You will notice that your speed is nearly half a mb higher in the Test socket which means you are getting some interference from the internal wiring. You really need to leave it in the Test socket for an extended period to check if the line is still unstable.

      Re: The problems begin!

ADSL nation faceplate doubled my internet from 3Meg to 6Meg, highly recommended. I don't use it any more as i have the VDSL filter which also works on ADSL if you can find a friendly engineer on his rounds they will give you one for free. another idea is to disconnect the ring wire from the extension socket, this is proven to introduce noise into the line twisted pair.
now I can do nothing 40 times faster
