      Angry

      I'm having the same problem as everyone else, I joined last Tuesday on the the 16Mb service and was geting absolutely abissmal speeds during peak hours.
      Spoke with T1 and they said they would get T3 to call me back within 24-48 hours. NOT!!! I ended up calling them on Saturday after waiting on the phone for 1hour!!
      Conclusion - nothing!! They've capped me at 8Mb as they say my line isn't that great and can't cope with 16Mb but even on the 8Mb it's pathetic (download speeds of anything between 500kbps - 2000kbps and Transfer rates of 30Kbps-200Kbps). They said they've done all at their end and nothing seems to be wrong, HELLO, how can nothing be wrong when I'm downloading at dial up speeds???
      I've checked the website http://www.nildram.net/support/tools...stion_checker/ that Plusnet Suk posted and its red stating that the upgarde is on the 12th of October, what's worrying is that everyones getting their exchange upgraded on the 12th October so I wonder how accurate that website is.
      I have been with BULLDOG for several years and even though their customer service is appauling I've always had GREAT download speeds (Transfer rate of 600Kbps at times). I'm now wondering if I've done the right thing by moving across..... Can you tell I'm majorly upset????

      I checked my works phone number to see what came up and surprise surprise the dot is red and the date was last Thursday. I somehow don't think anything is going to happen come the 12th...

      May as well throw my speed woes into the fray. My speeds suffer after 6pm until about midnight aswell with then going from 100Kbps to varying between 1Kbps and 30Kbps.

      My exchange is uncongested and never suffered this issue on the 1Meg line I had previous, thought ADSL Max was meant to be faster and better, not!

      BT need to get the finger out and sort this major issue out, again not!

      My Nildram exchange congestion checker results:

      Results for exchange: Atherton
      Congestion
      Congestion status on this exchange is GREEN.

      Your telephone line is on an un-congested exchange.

      Major Service Outages
      There are no Major Service Outages on your line at this present time

      So, no exchange problems! I have a feeling this Connect speed issue will remain a contentious issue for the foreseeable future, bugger

      On a positive note, I got a prompt email response from SkyBB technical support regarding my connection problems:

      Thank you for your e mail. We are experiencing issues with the web mail. Try and access the portal through www.Sky.com.

      I can provide you with some simple checks you can do, if your connection speed drops again. Firstly when your speed appears to drop, you can use the following steps to determine what your router is receiving:

      * Open up a new browser
      * Type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar
      * The Username is 'admin'
      * The Password is 'sky'
      * At the bottom of this page please select the 'show statistics' button.
      * In the new pop-up screen it will show you your current connection
      speed. It will be labelled 'downstream speed'.

      If you do this then it will let you know what speed you are running at. If this is greater than 7000Kb (which is the minimum acceptable speed), then I'd recommend you do the following to determine how many internet connections you have open:

      * Click on the Start button
      * Then select Run
      * Now type 'cmd' and click ok.
      * In the new please type 'netstat', then press enter.
      * Now count how many lines of information appear which start with the
      'TCP'.
      * If this is more than ten it is then I would advise you run some
      virus, and spyware checks on your system.
      * If is less than ten then please contact us back with this
      information.

      It's a pity they presume I know how to switch my computer on!

      I've kinda sorted my totally rubbish download speeds, it's now improved to about 350KB/sec. I'm now using my old Belkin router and the connection is much better.

      but most people use the net at night between these peak times.
      i never had as much slow down on aol , so i know my line is capable of delivering.
      after 6 im getting speeds as low as 20-25kbs and web pages take ages to open
