      Lost connection. Crackly line on phone.

      My bb connection has went down. Test light and the 4 Ethernet lights are green. Also got crackly phone line. Phoned sky and they said to phone bt first because the phone line was crackly. Phoned bt and they said the line was ok. Sending engineer out to try and find the problem. Just want it sorted. Dont know if its the line or the router thats at fault. Anyone had this problem?

      If you are paying BT for the Line Rental, then they are responsible for fixing the line.

      Since there is obvious noise on the line, then it would appear that there is a broken wire between your telephone and the exchange. Broadband issues often confuses the matters and the line provider (BT in this instance) will often try to get out of their responsibility.

      To confirm that it is a line issue, try the following:

      Plug a corded telephone into the Test Socket. Dial '1' and listen for the crackling. If it is present, then BT needs to repair it. If none is present, then check your internal wiring and any microfilters.

      To add onto what Scubbie has said -

      The light status on the router that you're receiving usually indicates a faulty power supply unit. It's likely worth your while calling Sky for a replacement PSU or getting a 12v PSU replacement.

      Is it possible that a faulty line could be related to causing the PSU to fail?

      Very unlikely, I'd say. Those sagems (2504) have a habit of showing faulty PSUs as either 4 ethernet lights lit, red internet light or sometimes power & test solid.
