      How high will it go?

      Howdy,

After 3-4 years of living in a broadband area that gave me little more than 2mb, i've moved recently to a new town.

Sky Broadband was hooked up today, i got them to take the cap off as the line attenuation was low. Couldn't be bothered waiting 4 days for them to take it off due to DLM, they agreed. After a 'check' on the router it said my max possible stable connection was 16.3mb, he changed the profile and asked me to steam something on BBC iPlayer to much sure no errors were seen. It was solid as a rock and has been all day.

I'm wondering though, with the kind of line attenuation, should i ask them to boost it upto 20mb in a couple of weeks? Possible with my stats ?

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16382 kbps 766 kbps
Line Attenuation 19.5 dB 10.9 dB
Noise Margin 7.6 dB 17.9 dB

Your connection stats look reasonable, but there is definitely room for improvement.

The upload speed is severely low for your current connection.

Whilst the Line Attenuation is similar to my own (see below) I'm not sure that you would be able to get the full 20mb. However, thinking a little more about it, Sky recently changed the specs for DLM and will now sync with a Noise Margin below 7dB when a line is of suitable quality.

Certainly give Sky another friendly call and see if someone else can improve things.

From my understanding more Sky personnel now have access to the systems that allow them to manually adjust the connection speed. This IMHO also means that there are a lot more who don't fully understand the systems at the moment and are prone to making mistakes. The first mistake is that you should not have had your connection manually adjusted before the initial DLM process had completed. This is a disciplinary offence and could get the person reprimanded.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

A little bit of patience may have seen you get 18-20Mb with DLM.

Thanks all - but DLM is still active on the account it's just the 4MB cap which was taken off. It was checked with a manager also, as i said i was happy with any line instability it would create.

      It's gone up though
