I'm not surprised, after all it is BT.

There is a possibility that there is an internal fault and this should be ruled out before you push too far and maybe end up with a bill.

Can you do the following? Remove the faceplate from the Master socket, then go round each of your phone sockets and check if you have a dial tone. You should not have, but in some cases where the wiring has been done incorrectly, one or more of the extension sockets are still 'live'. If this is the case, you will have to sort it out before pushing BT further.

      Hi, update,

finally got the broadband to connect at about 11, but noise margin is still always under 7, often around 2-4.

Bt are comimg tomorrow as line is still very bad and crackling, what i have noticed is that outgoing calls cause the router to drop and reset, this is with the new master socket, which is meant to be already filtered and indeed it did until last week. socket gone bad? or something on the line?

Either are possible, but more likely an issue with your telephone line.

      UPDATE

bt came this morning, did find a break on the pole outsjde -tixed

But internet goes down when making phone calls, rthe socket is prefiltered and when in test socket nothing else works.

noise margin is still around 2db, if on phone it goes up and drops when call is finished.

called cst twice, first response was to put it n dlm.
second call was, we will monitor.
in my view, there is obviouly a fault, noise margin does not improve when in test socket. sky seem reluctente to call out bt.

i know some of you work for sky, how i wish i got you when i call, what can i do a week ago i was geting 16 download, aten of ave 23, noise 7/1
now aten still same noise all over the place and down of 7-10, when it works, upload is still reasonable noise is 18db, aten 12 speed 639. i have had 2 years now of this on and off. any ideas cheers

noise margin is still around 2db, if on phone it goes up and drops when call is finished.
This suggests a high resistance fault on the line. Basically it means a joint is not making proper contact. This is bridged by the extra power being pushed down the line when the phone is in use, thus improving the broadband connection. If you show this to a competent BTO engineer he should realize what is wrong, trace and fix the fault.

      Hi

Sorry can't offer any help but I'm having a similar sort of problem. Can I ask how you measure the noise levels in real time. I know I can see them in the router config but these always seem static and only change if I reboot the router (or is this what you are doing too)

      Thanks

      Jim

You can track the changes in noise margin by using Routerstats Lite.
