So far so good after BT

      **Edit**
Just realised I've probably posted this in the wrong forum - feel free to move it Mods!!

I was with BT for 5 years and had very good service from them - I live a good bit from the Exchange so reliability is way more important than [unachievable] higher speeds

Below are the average stats for the last 6 months I was with BT.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4960 kbps 448 kbps
Connection Speed 4448 kbps 448 kbps
Connection Speed 4896 kbps 448 kbps
Connection Speed 3552 kbps 448 kbps
Connection Speed 3712 kbps 448 kbps

Line Attenuation 53.0 db 29.5 db
Line Attenuation 54.0 db 30.0 db
Line Attenuation 53.0 db 29.5 db
Line Attenuation 52.0 db 14.0 db
Line Attenuation 52.0 db 14.0 db

Noise Margin 4.7 db 18.0 db
Noise Margin 2.3 db 17.0 db
Noise Margin 3.7 db 18.0 db
Noise Margin 12.1 db 21.0 db
Noise Margin 6.0 db 21.0 db

Moved to Sky and during the 10 days of training my line seemed to stabilize quite quickly?

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3776 kbps 512 kbps
Connection Speed 3546 kbps 606 kbps
Connection Speed 3071 kbps 657 kbps
Connection Speed 3071 kbps 657 kbps
Connection Speed 3570 kbps 618 kbps
Connection Speed 3071 kbps 657 kbps

Line Attenuation 53.5 dB 31.5 dB
Line Attenuation 54.0 dB 31.5 dB
Line Attenuation 54.0 dB 31.4 dB
Line Attenuation 54.0 dB 31.4 dB
Line Attenuation 54.0 dB 31.4 dB
Line Attenuation 54.0 dB 31.4 dB

Noise Margin 6.4 dB 13.0 dB
Noise Margin 6.9 dB 10.0 dB
Noise Margin 7.8 dB 10.5 dB
Noise Margin 7.1 dB 10.5 dB
Noise Margin 8.3 dB 12.5 dB
Noise Margin 10.6 dB 11.0 dB

The line attenuation has ended up on a par with BT, but my Upstream speed has seen a fair old increase.
The Downstream speed has certainly slowed down, but, and it's a big but - the line has not dropped once since it stabilized after trainining.

      System Up Time: 924:53:04

As I said originally, being so far from the exchange puts limitations on my line but I would far rather take a slight decrease in speed to get the stability that I have enjoyed for the past 39 days
The move from BT has been a good one so far.

Re: So far so good after BT

You currently have an ADSL2+ connection and you are unlikely to get an improvement with the current set up as Sky won't lower the Noise Margin below 7dB. With BT, your Noise Margin was below this and that is why there is a difference.

Personally I would suggest that you contact Sky and ask if someone can put you on 'G.DMT' (aka ADSL1). This should result in your Line Attenuation dropping a couple of points and the possibility of your speed increasing as a result.

Not everyone at Sky has access to the systems which allow them to adjust the settings. If you get someone who can't help or does not understand what you are talking about, hang up and call again. Don't let someone reactivate DLM again. Remember too to look at the upstream connection as well. 448kbps is the standard setting for Sky Connect, but it is possible to get above this in your case.

Please do post the connection stats when this has been completed.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms
