Same old boring questions about ADSL speed

Sorry I guess it must get old but I was wondering if I should be happy with the speed my line is set to or whether I should get more with these stats

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Spd 8191 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 35.0 dB 18.1 dB
Noise Margin 14.8 dB 15.5 dB

Testing has completed and set me at 8.2/ 0.8 which to be honest is pretty much as fast as I have ever had in other houses just thought I might of got more reading articles online that suggested 35db Att. would net me ~14Mb

I had been watching the router logs to see what it was doing and it seems my line was reset 2 times from 4 to 6 then 8 and then it just remained there, I had hoped it might have continued, also wonder if I might have stuffed it up moved the router about and switched it off a couple of times due to setting up cabling for phones in the new house.

Is that it for me do you think is it worth calling up to see if it can be pushed further?

      Cheers

Try the router in the test socket. If the Noise Margin stays the same, then you may well have affected the outcome of DLM, give Sky a call and explain the situation. The default NM should be 7db and that is where your speed has likely gone.

Call Sky and tell them you have made improvements to your wiring since DLM completed and would like your speed, both up and down, set manually. If you don't tell a little white one, they may say that's all you can get and do nothing. You should see about a 50% increase.

Cheers I'll give them a call, see what can be done, had a feeling it might be better due to stats.

Re: Same old boring questions about ADSL speed

Sorted, quick call and they set the speed

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 12927 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 35.5 dB 18.3 dB
Noise Margin 7.1 dB 16.0 dB

Nice little improvement for the sake of a call

      Thanks for the assistance.

No problem, but as nearly always happens, they have not upped the upload speed. Give them another call and ask them to remove the cap from the upload.

Re: Same old boring questions about ADSL speed

Ah yes I see, is there a guideline as to what I can achieve with my current line specs for upload as the guy on the phone last time needed a bit of convincing. I guess extra upload is handy particularly when host to p2p online games, My last ISP BE gave me 1.3Mb upload so just assumed that was the norm for ADSL2 didn't even pay attention to what Sky gave me

Re: Same old boring questions about ADSL speed

You will not get 1.3 but 1.1 Mb should be possible, you have plenty of noise margin in hand.
