Thinking Of Getting a Sky Talk Package - Will This Affect My Sky Unlimited Broadband?

      Hi all

Well after nearly six months of Sky Unlimited Broadband, I can say I am reasonably happy with it. I would have said I was perfectly happy but once or twice a day it loses speed and I nor Sky can not figure it out as Unlimited is what it says, with no throttling etc - must think it is to do with other users sharing my traffic routing in the neighbourhood - contention ratio?

By and large I am happy and am thinking now of taking a line rental package out with Sky to lessen my monthly bills.

When I went to Sky Unlimited Broadband last year I was recommended not to take both a Talk and Broadband package together as this could cause problems, especially with speed etc. I cannot remember what I was told but I am posting today to see what the implications could be if I took a Sky Talk Package - say Sky Talk Unlimited?

Sky tell me it definately 100% will not affect my Broadband service but they would say that wouldn't they? as they want more money from me.

What do you think and what would you recommend? I am finding BT inflexible these days and do not like their customer service apart from their high quarterly rental charges!

      TIA

      roz

You are not likely to see a reduction in speed. Some have reported that they have but in most cases the difference is small. The upload speed does appear to increase for many. See here

I was in the same boat as you, Sky unlimited and BT line rental with evening and weekend calls. A few weeks after joining sky I took the plunge and went for their line rental with unlimited call package. Very seamless transition with minimal downtime on the day of change over.

I lost around 300k due to the attenuation rising slightly, but it wasn't noticeable at all (I sync around 14mb). However, something must have happened a couple of months ago and I got back the speed that I had lost, also my error count was drastically reduced, don't know the reason, don't really care

Never had any real problems since day one, and saved a bucket load of money over my last ISP and line rental set up.

      I'd say go for it.

Re: Thinking Of Getting a Sky Talk Package - Will This Affect My Sky Unlimited Broadb

I moved from BT's network to SVBN on 28 Feb. just past. My Downstream speed now is exactly the same as previously, 17020kbps, and my upstream speed has increased from 948 to 1157 kbps with both downstream and upstream noise margins approx 1 Db higher. All in all I am delighted with the result as I was aware of the odd occasion when lower speeds were the result of moving to SVBN.

No problems for me either, been really pleased with service since moving over to sky line and as a bonus was contacted about the fibre broadband as I had registered my interest. Had fibre installed on 28th Feb !!!

I did it the same way as well. I never noticed any difference when my phone line moved from BT to Sky. Would never go back to BT now!!
