Router syncing at 8mb before christmas now down to 5mb

Hi Guys, I have been a sky customer for quite a while, was origionly with BE broadband with BE my line was syncing at over 8mb and i was happy with that. I moved to sky due to there package deals with the TV phone and BB. and was getting around about 8mb sync speeds and it was very stable. Recently i have noticed that my router is syncing at a much lower speed and i wonder if there is any thing that can be done to fix this and if it is worth phoning tech support up. My only experiance with Sky support was frustrating to say the least so i would like to avoid that if i can. My current Router stats are as follows

According to SkyUser - Potential ADSL2 Line Speed Checker & Calculator i should be able to get a sync speed of 7-8mb as I was seeing before christmas.
After a reboot I am seeing the following stats the router has always been plugged into the master phone socket and i have filters on all of the lines.WLAN is disabled on the router and i have an apple airport in LAN 1 running my WLAN

My attenuation is 48 and I get 7meg, you can defo get more speed, as yours is 45

See if anyone can help suggest anything on here?

I presume you have checked your wiring and tested from the master socket, as in removed the front plate to rule out any extension issues?

      Hi,

The modem is and always has been plugged into the front of the master socket. I have tried it in the Test socket in the past and I dont seem to get any speed boost from it. I will plug the modem into the test socket and post my stats later as my flatmate is using the internet at the moment.

I am hoping it can be sorted by myself rather than phoning sky support as last time I spoke to them they had me rebooting my laptop and modem while standing on my head.

      Thanks

      Matt

You must have spoken to a new member of staff then, because normally they make you do all that and then gargle at the same time, whilst singing, 'Dancing Queen' backwards.

If the stats are the same from the test socket, that pretty much rules out internal wiring tbh

As DLM has capped your speed it will not increase. What you want to see is an increase in the downstream noise margin. Your noise margin could be fluctuating which has caused the cap to be applied. If the noise margin goes higher in the Test socket, it indicates a problem with your internal wiring.

As things stand your speed could probably be increased by 1-2Mb, but if the margin keeps coming down it will just decrease again.

Well I am all plugged into my test socket and have rebooted my router for good measure my stats are below. I think it might be safe to say there is no fault with my internal wiring. Especially as it was only put in 3 years ago.

You are being held back speedwise, if you have done it from the test socket, then there is nothing really else you can do.

That attenuation should be giving you a far higher speed then you are currently getting.

Ring them back and tell them you have tried everything on that list, and see what they say?

Well I have just got off the phone to someone at Sky who sounded like Taj from come fly with me.

Swap the filter and try a different phone socket thats not the master. Apparently he has made some tweaks to my line to increase the speed and i should be getting about 6.5mb down. Checking the router stats my noise margin has dropped to 8.

He has told me to buy a new NTE5 faceplate and a new filter then phone sky back and they will reconfigure my line but not to move or do anything to my modem for the next 10 days.

The line is still capped at 5Mbps, the line is faulty and needs BT out on it
