      Exclamation Horrific speeds North Wales

Today i have had horrific speeds, for those of you sky user forum users that live in north wales, im in Llanfaethlu, close to Holyhead.

My internet speeds are usually around the 3mb down when i use web based speed tests ( speedtest.net ) and they are 99% the same with the PS3 speed tests. My internet is currently so slow that web based speedtests just give me error messages but i managed to get the ps3 to do a speedtest and it returned with this:
      DOWNLOAD - 34.4 kbps
      UPLOAD - 344.4 kbps

      Should i call sky?

Currently my upload is faster than download which has never happened before. Router stats can be posted upon request.

      Re: Horrific speeds North Wales

I have been having problems too, I am in holyhead. close to the exchange, and am having poor speeds too. as mentioned in this thread started from someone in Bangor Is there congestion in data leaving the Sky network?

I started a broadband quality test using an online tool to monitor my connection. As you can see there is a definate problem with Latency and if you look am getting constant dropped packets (red lines top of graph)

Just started using it today, I am guessing I might get good results overnight when demand is less on what I think is going to be a problem with the backhaul in this area. Time will tell. Hopefully this info I colllect will add so weight to my complaint when I phone up sky in a few days.....

In response to Henhead, i live pretty much down the road to you, Llanfaethlu. Small world!

In the past few minutes the internet has gone back to my usual broadband speeds. im back to my 3.2mb connection with no lag. Restart your router and see how it handles.

Looks like you're on Connect, not Unlimited, so no wonder you have bad speeds. Either that or you just happen to have the upstream speed of Connect

      EDIT: You're on Connect

      Holyhead is unbundled though:

      So different issues

Although as said, you are on connect, your sync speed is far too low. With an attenuation of 24db you should be syncing at the maximum of 8128kbps with a download speed of 7200kbps. You do have a high noise margin which should allow you to sync higher, but it looks like BTs equivalent of DLM has found a problem with your line and capped it accordingly.

You should take your stats in the Test socket and compare them to the normal position. You might not see an increase in the speed, but if your internal wiring is causing the problem you will see an increase in the noise margin.
If you don't have a Test socket, remove everything you have plugged into the phone circuit and take your stats from the Master socket.
