What's the deal with Sky Broadband

Hey guys, hoping one of you lot are technically proficient and can advise me about how to get a bit more speed from this broadband.

Moved house and as I am now in a village can no longer get fibre optic broadband through Virgin so I ordered Sky TV, broadband and phone. I had to wait 2 weeks after my TV was done until my broadband and sky talk was activated and to say it's a disappointment is an understatement. 3.1 dl speed which gives me no more than 370kbps sustained on downloads.

I understand that the speed can fluctuate in the first 10 days but I doubt that my speed is going to magically jump up to the dizzy heights of even a 6mb line which was the top end of my estimate. I checked with sky and posted the stats I was told to get, I was told that there is nothing wrong with my phoneline and I'm getting everything I am capable of getting but come back in 10 days and see if anything has changed.

As the crow flies I live 3.3km from the exchange... could it be the exchange that is the problem ie outdated? Is there anything I can buy to improve my line, I've been told I can replace the front of my telephone box and it will improve my speed.

      Cheers in advance!

Your exchange has been updated with Sky's equipment, it is just your house is too far away from it to get any great speed.

Can you plug into your Test socket if you have one and post the stats from there?
