Between 14-17mbps or so. Have you not been informed that Dynamic Line Management optimises the line for up to ten days?

      Re: Slow speeds

Using the tool that is available on this site, you should be looking to get 16mb or more.

SkyUser - Potential ADSL2 Line Speed Checker & Calculator

You currently have plenty of Noise Margin, so this should be possible.

In the mean time ensure that you are using the Master Socket, not an extension, and if you do have any hard wired extensions, seriously consider fitting a filtered faceplate. ADSL2+ is more susceptible to poor line quality and interference from extensions than ADSL1 is.

      Re: Slow speeds

No the guy told me the only difference in speeds I would see is an INCREASE lol.... He said it was just a simple switch from BT to sky and my line should easily get 16mb... which = a download speed of around 1.6mb/s right?

We dont need to use any filters as our box has one built inside. We also only have one socket and I am not putting it into the test socket as being with BT for over 10 years I have been told to try that numerous times and NEVER noticed a difference.

Also I have seen people witha LOT more noise and have better speeds =\

Thank you for the very swift responses guys. I moved everything over to sky including line rental, how do I contact them now, is there a shortcut number like it was 151 with bt?

      Re: Slow speeds

If you already have a socket that has two ports, one for the telephone and one for the ADSL router, then you already have a filtered faceplate.

Once DLM kicks in, the speed will increase and the noise margins will drop as a direct result.

The 08442 numbers used to contact Sky are all free. I am not aware of any short-cut numbers on Sky.

P.S. I personally hate being referred to as a 'Guy', it's not your fault but I'm female

For one thing, you are on completely different exchange equipment.

DLM will start in 2-3 days and the first increase will probably be to about 9+Mb. Thereafter it will gradually increase until the line is at its full potential. Usually takes 3-4 days to reach the maximum.

      Re: Slow speeds

4096/606 or 4095/605 is the standard starting speed for Sky before DLM kicks in. It is the same for everyone.

Your individual telephone line will support a different speed to someone a few hundred metres from your home.

The physical wiring makes a difference with ADSL, even more so with ADSL2+.

As you have moved from BT to Sky's equipment, your physical connection was changed, if only at the telephone exchange.

ISPs will not share the information between each other. So had you gone to o2 or TalkTalk, the same would be true.

So basically, everyone has to put you on the starting speed and work from there.

It is automated as it would take a lot of man hours to personally alter all new customers lines.
