Sky can't give me consistant speed... Why?

Hi, I am new to this forum...

I have been having problems with Sky Broadband unlimited for quite a while, firstly slow connection speed and now inconsistent and slow speeds.

      Below are my router stats:
      Downstream:
      Connection Speed: (anywhere from) 1600kbps - 5500kbps
      Line attenuation: 46db
      Noise Margin: 4db
      Upstream:
      Connection Speed: (anywhere from) 550kbps - 942kbps
      Line attenuation: 27db
      Noise Margin: 8db

The router is plugged into the BT Master socket.

O2 have guaranteed my a min of 6.5mbps download speed. I still trying and would prefer to get faster and more importantly a more consistent speed from Sky.

I have been through the, "have you got your filter in" "have you got extensions" question endless times.

Although I was told a few weeks ago I was on ADSL2 it turns out I wasn't. While on the phone today I was put on ADSL2, I had the Connection Speed increased from 3250kbps to 4850kbps, only for it to drop back to 3500kbps about 10 mins after I put the phone down.

What does it sound like, to anyone, what the issue could be? I would like a slightly faster speed but understand the restrictions with distance, above all I would like consistency.

      Any ideas?

Sounds like a line issue of sorts, can you post your stats in the test socket with just your router attached and we can go from there

SNR is low, even in the test socket. You're not forcing a lower SNR to get more speed are you?

Another thing you can try is plug a corded phone into the test socket, press 1 and listen for any excessive hiss. If you get a lot then you're looking at a line issue

Re: Sky can't give me consistant speed... Why?

I'm not doing anything my end other than plugging in the filter and then the router. I'm not forcing the SNR, in fact I wouldn't know how to.

I've tested my line with a fixed phone and there's no noise to speak of...

Thanks for your ideas so far, any more where they came from?
