      The move to MER isn't the issue, it's the move onto the Sky network that tends to lead to loss of speed as there's more hardware involved in the chain (so to speak)

      But unless the connections are really bad, would a few more metres of cabling really make such a difference?

      Probably.

      Due to all the thefts of copper cable across the country, there is evidence that BTO are now in the habit of using cheaper cable outside the exchanges, it would not surprise me if this were the case inside the exchanges too.

      CCA ( Copper Clad Aluminium ) patch cables ? Surely not..
