Arrow Hi, newbie with a quick question

Hi all, im a new member on this forum so I apologise in advance for and mistakes that I may make. For the past 6 years i've been on sky 'up to' 20MB Unlimited broadband. but after having problems (well my nephew and his ps3 with server upload or something like that lol), I decided to ring sky and the nice lady upped my speed from 8MB to 10Mb and also my upload from 768 to 955 and apologised for sky not doing it sooner. (My router stats are below). Basically I rang BT to enquire their broadband and they said my line could handle 16Mb with an estimate of 12.5Mb. So I rang sky and told the advisor what BT said and in a nutshell he said 10MB is my max?.

So basically what i'm asking is that could my line handle more speed with the router stats shown below and if so, is there anything I could do?

All help would be much appreciated.

      Many Thanx and Kind Regards

Re: Hi, newbie with a quick question

12-14Mb should be possible with your attenuation, but unfortunately your noise margin is too low to allow this, so as things stand, the lady at Sky is correct.

However, it is possible your internal wiring is interfering and causing noise on your line. To check this, plug into the Test socket using only the ADSL cable supplied by Sky, take and post your stats. You speed probably will not increase, what you want to see is an increase in your noise margin.

Re: Hi, newbie with a quick question

Even if you could get higher if using the broadband for your PS3 you might want to stick to the 10MB because I'm guessing she popped you on a gamer profile there to resolve the issue. Gamer profiles are only available in 2, 10 and 20MB. The higher speeds won't make a difference to your gaming and might even make them worse by lowering the quality of your line.
