      New Non sky Router. HELP!

Okay, Today I have purchased a new Belkin N600 DB router. The LAN functionality of the router is phenomenal! BUT! every since I have installed it and set up my downstream connection plummeted! I don't receive a great connection as it is anyway, At best on a good day when the moon is in alignment with my exchange I get 2.8meg. Since installing my new router my connection is 1.4meg at best! AND FLUCTUATING! can someone offer me any advice? I've matched as many settings as I possibly could from my old router but to no avail. HELP.

Post the stats, including the sync speeds, attenuation and noise margins.

It is possible your new router is not very compatible with the Sky exchange equipment. Can you plug in your Sky router and see if the speed goes back up?

The main settings you have to check are -
      Encapsulation: PPPoA
      VPI....0
      VCI....38
      Multiplex VC -Mux
      MTU ...1500
      Multiplexing: VC

Hmm, I feared this much, I have just changed the MTU to 1500 as it was previously standard set to 1492 I believe, I will wait for the LCP to come up and will check again. I don't think I have the option to change multiplexing but I will check.

You will have, it is possibly set to LLC which might work, but not as it should.

Re: New Non sky Router. HELP!

I am definitely using the right settings, Im currently using VC MUX. After a reboot my connection actually dropped. I'm a little lost now as what to do :S Seems very strange that It wouldn't be compatible as it seems to be responding to something. I have plugged in my old modem and the connection is fine and goes straight back up to 2765kbps :S.

Re: New Non sky Router. HELP!

I can't think on any other setting which may effect it. Is there any chance of trying it on a friends connection? It is possible the router is faulty.

Re: New Non sky Router. HELP!

I guess I could try :/ I may just return it. I only bought it for the exact purpose of having faster sharing in my house. Advisable router? I have quite a bit of floor space.

Re: New Non sky Router. HELP!

Why not use the router purely for the wireless N? You can use the router and make it co-exist with your sky router whilst using the sky router for connecting to the internet.

You'd need to assign a manual IP address to the new router within the range for your lan but outside of the sky router dhcp pool. Then connect sky router -> spangly router and connect with the wireless from the spangly router.

(I assume thats why you wanted the faster sharing speed - wireless G on sky router)
