      Torrent Speeds Reduced

Has anyone else experienced there torrent speeds reduced?

I have started downloading an ISO a few mins ago, it gets up to 1.1MBs and after a few moments it drops to about 100kbps, it seems as though something is monitoring it and then cuts in and drops the speed. I haven't herd anything about it and don't use torrents much, but its over 4GB and at that rate I will be there for ages!

This happens all the time with torrents.

Leave it to continue to download overnight and all should be fine.

      Re: Torrent Speeds Reduced

Normally I have constant speeds once it gets to 1.1MBs it doesn't just suddenly drop to about 100kbps, making me think that sky may be limited torrent traffic in peak periods?

      Re: Torrent Speeds Reduced

Just seems strange. I can download anything normally at full speeds, but a torrent will reach its full speed, then about 30 seconds later it will cut down to a stupid speed.

normal, mine will max at 1.3 its like a super sonic jet speed, then it just drops.

look in your download link, you will see your domloading from somewhere at a massive speed, you will complete your segemnt your downloading from them then it might cut off cos they dont have the piece you need, all normal stuff.

ps mine maxed at last adress, got problems at my new house, but still all normal torrent wise

      Re: Torrent Speeds Reduced

With torrents your speed is guided by whomever is seeding and that your computer is connected to.

It can also be very important to limit your upload speed so that it isn't left unlimited. I normally recommend setting it to around 2/3rds of your max upload speed.

Should your computer connect to some other source for some reason or the source decides to stop seeding, then you will no longer get the same speeds. Also the source could decide to share it's connection with other people at the same time.

It really does vary all the time between different torrents.

Last month I decided to hammer my connection all month. The connection speeds varied, so it wasn't going at full throttle all the time, but I managed to squeeze nearly 2TBs in downloads.
