Question Will upload speed ever improve?

In the past 2 years my speeds have not altered, but just wondered will upload speeds ever improve, when uploading video it makes you feel your back on dial-up it's so slow, speshly with HD and all the new fangled video modes, I would have thought upload speeds would have risen over the years, or is this just not possible on the old telephone lines?

      Regards, Robert

Re: Will upload speed ever improve?

It is possible for upload speeds to be better by using Annex M. Unfortunately unless you are very, very close to the exchange this results in a reduction in your download speed. Also Sky do not use it, preferring Annex A which has a maximum upload speed of 1.3mbps. For some reason the maximum speed is seldom attained, very few with Sky getting more than 1.1mbps.
Looking at your upload speed, I think you are probably capped at 800kbps, post your stats and we will advise whether it is worth asking Sky to increase your upload speed.

Incidentally, it may feel like dial up speed, but it is far from it, you have something like 20 times the speed of dial up upload and almost 300 times the download.

Your stats show you could get a considerable increase in both your download and upload. Call Sky and ask them to manually configure it as you believe DLM has left it too low. Emphasize you want your upload increased as well as they often miss it.

Thats great, will phone them this afternoon, a few years ago I had a fault that was disconnecting every few mins, they tried all sorts to help and reduced the speed, we then found the modem was upside down and overheating, doh So the speed has been kept back for a few years now, will call them,

Thank you for all your help, Robert

Woman told me there was nothing to adjust as I was getting as fast as possible up and down, (19mb down and 758k up in her tests)!

      Cheers, Robert

That's a load of rubbish regarding the upstream, you could be nearer 1Mbps if they did their job right

19mb down is higher than you said you was syncing at before, turn off your router at the mains for a min and turn back on, then repost your stats to see if there is a change

Re: Will upload speed ever improve?

With a sync of 766 and a noise margin of 15db, you should be able to get 1.2Mb quite easily, you have been unfortunate enough to get an airhead. Call back and maybe you will get someone with something between their ears. A resync may improve your download, if it doesn't, it needs the cap lifted too.
