Advice for new Sky Wifi router

My current router is the one issued when I joined Sky about 4 years ago. (The old white Netgear one).

If I purchased one of the more current routers off ebay, (Is this the SAGEM 2304n one?), should I notice any improvement in speed or Wifi range?

Or would I be just wasting my money?

(I wouldnt even mind buying a more expensive one from say PC World if it can be configured to work with my Sky Broadband).

Any help here would be helpful.

To be honest you'd be better getting your own as it'd be better than anything Sky currently offer, you just need to get the username/password out of your existing one using the guides available on here

Any ADSL2+ router can be used.

Work out what you wish to get from your router first and then take a look around to see which can offer you what you want.

It may also be worth taking a look at the thread linked below. It shows how you can make the most of your connection by getting a router with the right chipset:

What non-Sky router will give me the best speed.

Some things to consider in a router are as follows:

      • type of WiFi, access speed & signal strength
      • ease of setting up
      • LAN speed
      • USB port/s for connecting some of the following: Printer, USB stick, External drive
      • DLNA support for USB stick or external drive
      • comments on the forums (not just this forum, but also the relative manufacturer forums)
      • cost (the Sky Sagem 2504N is 35 from Sky)

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Re: Advice for new Sky Wifi router

If you have compatible adapters the router you have will give you more speed(108mbps) than the 2304N, which gives you about seventy something. The 2504N will only give you 144mbps and to get this you need wireless N adapters.

I think there are better places to buy from than PCW, many of their goods are overpriced. Look for one that will provide 300mbps. This is fast enough for most uses. The ones which are rated at 450mbps are overpriced in my opinion and require overpriced adapters to work at that speed.
