      Router stats misleading

I have been having issues with my sky BB and I'm on the connect package (I know not great)

I have had 4 Openreach engineers out trying to sort the issues I have. Since the last engineer visit my router stats page shows that i have a download speed of approx 6meg. However when i run speed tests I have not got over 1.5meg.

The way I see it I have reasonable speed coming into the house but then it is significantly slowed over my wifi. Does anyone have any ideas????

      Re: Router stats misleading

The first thing to check is whether its any better wired, get an ethernet cable and try that.
If so then the problem is with your wifi and if so you can try different channels or even a different router.
I'm surprised you managed to get Sky to get OR out to this as it sounds like the problem is your side of the router.
You are obviously aware of the limitations of Connect.

Thanks for the reply I'll try the Ethernet cable connection later. I've had sky out for a different problem, constant cut outs that have been identied as a problem on BT's side and a possible cable fault. That doesn't explain my speed drop.

      Re: Router stats misleading

Post router stats, slow throughput could be caused by poor/fluctuating SNR.
Or you may need an SNR reset done. Although you'd hope after 4 engineer visits that someone would have already done this for you... It's quite common on the Connect package to have decent sync speed but be stuck on a crap profile.

You can check this with the BT speedtester - Test Result

Also is it the same speed all times of the day? You could be being throttled if you've been flagged up for excessive usage.

Thanks for the quick response. What's my SNR?

I have fairly consistent speeds except at peek time when it can reduce a little. I don't think I'm an excessive user but I may have gone over my daily allowance on the connect package, how would I find out if this is the problem?

      Re: Router stats misleading

I love throwing a spanner in the works, but taking a look at SamKnows, your telephone exchange (if your profile is correct) has Sky's equipment. There should be no reason why you shouldn't be moved to the Unlimited package now.

Hopefully if you can post your stats we can confirm if you are still on the Connect package.

Sorry, this is true, but the page doesn't indicate when the exchange went live.

It is also possible that if it was once full, a space may now be available.

      Re: Router stats misleading

I am surprised no one has mention changing the router's wireless channel. This is the first troubleshooting step with poor wireless performance. If you have not changed it it is probably on Auto, which does not work too well with Sky routers. Change the channel to #13 for a start, then download and use Inssider to discover the channels in use in your area. Choose a channel as far from those in use as possible.

If this does not help, update your adapters drivers.
