      yet another speed thread

Ive come back to sky, and had a few questions as my attenuation has increased slightly, looks like the new sagem routers report higher than netgear.
Anyway they have manually reprofiled my line as i wanted a gamer profile back again. Download speed im a happy with, i would like a little more upload, here are my stats from the test socket.

      attenuation 34db
      sync speed 10238/796
      noise margin 6.8/15.3

What do you think, should i try and squeeze them for some more.

Whheeeeeeee...... (sorry, I couldn't resist - in reference to this being 'yet another speed thread')

Provided that you have made the best arrangements with your telephone wiring, I would be inclined to give Sky a call again. All too often when someone manually configures a line they can forget to increase the upstream connection.

Looking at your stats, it looks like this is the case with your connection. You should be able to get a little extra out of your connection with that noise margin.

In respect of configuring your telephone line, the best arrangement currently would be to fit a filtered faceplate and use the short grey ADSL lead supplied with the Sky router. There are some specific extension leads to replace the ADSL lead, but don't use a cheap telephone extension lead as the wires are not suitable for an ADSL2+ connection.

Take a look at this link too: ::. Kitz - Improve your adsl connection speed .::

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

ill wait for the faceplate and tell them ive improved things my end, whats the chance of a bit more out the down sync?

Not much unless the filtered faceplate improves your downstream noise margin by quite a bit. 2-3db at least.

Some have had great success with emails, other are still waiting on a reply. You are better phoning, then if you are not satisfied you can complain there and then, rather than have to email back.

      Re: yet another speed thread

Well i phoned them again last night and got them to put me on a gaming profile, they said nothing can be done about my upload speed, then at 3 am the router rebooted, connection stats changed to

Connection Speed 10934 kbps 945 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 dB 20.6 dB
Noise Margin 7.6 dB 12.7 dB

and my ping times increased again, back to 45ms to the bbc. I guess im no longer on a gaming profile and my sky says im back on dlm. Should i let dlm finish as the upload is increasing slowly and then get put back on a gaming profile??

Could you try running 'tracert' at the command prompt and post the results please?

      Re: yet another speed thread

You could always instead of getting them to put you on a gamer profile ask them them to reduce you max delays to 8ms. I was onced put on a gamer profile and the max delayed remained on 16ms which i guess yours could be with a ping of around 45ms. I only have a 2mb connection and im on a 4.6mb g.dmt profile with a max delay of 8ms and i get a ping around 27ms going to something like bbc.co.uk

The gamer profile on the SVBN already has them at 8ms

      Re: yet another speed thread

They definaltly put me on the gamer profile as my pings dropped to 23ms to the bbc. But the cs guy has restarted dlm, and at 3am my speeds increased and my pings went back upto 42ms. you can clearly see this on my tbb graph.
