      Getting a little worried

      Hi all,

Just moved to Sky broadband and currently in DLM as of 3rd November. I appreciate the DLM has still to run for a few days, but the stats I'm currently getting is slightly worrying me.

I only ever got 1meg connection with my previous ISP due to length from the exchange, so I wasn't expecting any increase.

I have the Sagem 2504n and it is plugged into a adsl nation faceplate in the main socket. At present I only have the sky HD + box cabled to it for Anytime +.

Sky activated my BB Unlimited on 1st Nov and the stats at 10:31 on the 2nd were as follows:

      Router Statistics

      System Up Time: 13:45:31
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 542592 1011746 0 115 199 13:43:31
      LAN Up 910357 454480 0 709 0 13:45:31
      WLAN Up 130449 107393 0 10425 4004 13:45:10
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 992 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 63.5 dB 31.5 dB
Noise Margin 8.1 dB 10.0 dB

I know Sky work to a 7db noise margin and I did take the stats on the 3rd but they didn't save, but I know it was connecting downstream at 443kbps

DLM kicked in on the 4th and the stats were as follows for the 4th and 7th Nov:

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 140006 152234 0 0 0 39:14:54
      LAN Up 4835958 2322417 0 0 5 141:29:16
      WLAN Up 2668163 2313751 0 7269 987 120:23:05
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 653 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 75.5 dB 48.7 dB
Noise Margin 6.2 dB 12.0 dB

I took the stats again on the 7th and there was no change from above.

These were the stats on the 9th:

      System Up Time: 187:31:01
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 308409 331428 0 33 306774495 85:16:39
      LAN Up 4936642 2326144 0 0 0 187:31:01
      WLAN Up 4223459 3625572 0 0 1186 166:24:50
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 653 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 75.5 dB 48.7 dB
Noise Margin 5.2 dB 12.0 dB

And finally the stats today - 10th

      System Up Time: 212:27:41
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 452397 470576 0 2 0 110:13:19
      LAN Up 4986352 2328375 0 0 0 212:27:41
      WLAN Up 4704417 4065516 0 0 1081 191:21:30
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 653 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 75.5 dB 48.7 dB
Noise Margin 4.8 dB 12.0 dB

I only got a 1Meg connection with my previous ISP due to distance from the exchange, so I'm not expecting any miracles but the concern I have is:

      1. Why has my line attenuation jumped from 63.5 to 75.5
      2. Why has the router not reset to resynch, as I thought this was done every 24hrs or so.
      3. What sort of speed can I expect when the DLM completes ?

I have a feeling I'm going to have to call them when DLM is over and get it manually configured.

      Cheers
      FW

      Re: Getting a little worried

You need to phone them up and ask them to put you on G.DMT

Your attenuation will go down and speed should rise up to 900 - 1100kbps.

      Just a follow up.
