      Angry High Latency

Hi, I've only been with Sky BB a few weeks but am already thinking about taking my business elsewhere.....

Of an evening (when i know there will be a higher contention) simple web browsing is almost impossible e.g. google is taking 30seconds or more to download the google image. Doing some testing with speedtest.net I'm seeing download speeds of anywhere between 0.50mbps and 4mbps but more importantly the latency (ping) I'm seeing ranges between 150-900ms which for transferring data is rubbish, don't even think about streaming even on youtube.

Just wasted 30mins my time with the sky help desk trying to explain that I have a very high latency all I got got from them was your router is connected at this speed, move you laptop closer to you router, despite explaining i'm also testing from a wired connection, do I have a large fishtank etc oh and its a time when people are downloading porn, a 'technical' manager did not seem to want to talk to me and I could not get the point across that I'm talking about core download speed and not my internal network design.

Does anyone else experience the same issues of an evening to this extent and have they managed to talk to anyone at sky that is not reading from a script? during the day and at weekends my speed seems to be around 4.5mbps and nothing higher than 60-70ms latency, which is fine.

oh and this is also after switched my BB to sky so I can use anytime+ only to be told on the website when setting it up that my HD box does not support anytime+, great!

Would be interested to find out what other experiences are.

      Re: High Latency

are you sure you are on sky unlimited? from your post it sounds like connect (slow speeds at peak and weekends)

also if you are on unlimited you can be asked to be put on the gamer profile which has lower pings

      FTTC Connection: download:40,000. upload:10,000. 5ms ping
      ADSL Speed:
      Connection Speed 18013 kbps 1087 kbps 16db 7db attenuation7db 7db noise
      Download: 15351 Kbit/s
      Upload : 957 kbit/s
      Connects : 2891 conn/min Ping: 19 ms

      Re: High Latency

You have a serious problem with your connection. If you want help post your stats please, using only the ADSL cable supplied by Sky. The stats can be obtained by wireless or ethernet, it makes no difference.
How to get your router statistics

When you have taken them from your normal position, take them again from your Test socket again using only the cable supplied by Sky.
How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket

If you are unable to get Anytime+ due to the box, it must be a Thomson. Sky were changing these for up to date boxes, but I don't know if they still do so.
