Router unable to hold connectiallay all please help

2 days ago I emailed sky regarding my slow connection, i received a prompt email back saying they had managed to boost my signal ( at which point I was at work so didn't think anything of it other than couldnt wait to be get home to a speedier connection) as I got home I noticed the amber light flashing on my router, and since then it's not been able to hold a connection I have emailed sky numerous times and all they give me is a step by step micro filter yada yada, I've tried various different micro filters, I called sky the day after and they guy on the phone tried to help me and he didn't know a thing, although when I called them my router connected perfectly, I told the sky man and he took all credit for finding a solution and assured me he would call back today to see how my connection is, he hasn't called back and my connection is still down, now and again it connects when I have used my landline but never fore more than 5 minutes, I've been on to my router settings (192.168.0.1) and it when I test my connection it comes back with - DSL LINE FAILURE/LINE NOT PHYSICALLY CONNECTED

Please can someone help me as sky customer service have been no help at all

      Post your stats please -
How to get your router statistics

and from the Test socket if you have one.
How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket

Use only the ASL cable and filter supplied by Sky. No telephone extensions.

The reason there is no actual numbers is because it won't connect.

If you are getting the same result in the Test socket, all you can do is call Sky and tell them your internet is down. They should test your line, find it faulty and fix it.

You have a dial tone or any issues on your landline phone?

Re: Router unable to hold connectiallay all please help

How slight are we talking? Any whistle/hum/pops/high-pitched noise?

My advice would be to test the phone at the test socket with no other equipment, just the phone. If you still definitely hear a crackle or noise, then report it to Sky (if they're your line rental provider) as you have a voice fault on the line.

Alternatively, if there is no voice issue here, then as per Isitme's post - try the router at the test socket with another microfilter and just the short grey dsl cable that Sky provided to the router. If still no internet light coming on, then keep the router in the test socket and call Sky for further testing.

The noise is like a light rustling, I've tried new micro filters and the rustling is still there even on the test socket without the router. Guess I'll have to wait for sky's amazing customer service to guide me through :-(

Re: Router unable to hold connectiallay all please help

Ring them with the router at the test socket. Just say you have no sync and explain what you've done. A few tests need ran just to see what the best outcome should be, whether that be replacement router or engineer visit.

What router do you have and how old is it? I assume you don't have a spare router to hand, no?

Edit: Forgot about the noise bit. Hard to say whether this is a voice fault or not, but if you're hearing a definite crackle, then sounds like a voice fault to me. You may want to try another corded phone at the test socket (without filters etc.) to make sure you still hear a crackling.
