      Low speed

      Here are my line stats:
      System Up Time: 95:12:26
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 4652511 6749306 0 3028 6265 77:06:04
      LAN Up 3746018 2747482 0 6265 2676 95:12:26
      WLAN Up 3068691 2027778 0 6265 657 95:12:04
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7005 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 39.0 dB 20.6 dB
Noise Margin 7.4 dB 12.0 dB

We are 9 days in the 10 day process and this is the best we have got so far. Can it be faster as we had nearer 9.5Mbps with O2.

      Re: Low speed

Your DLM process has completed. It can take up to 10 days to complete, but normally takes less. Occasionally it can take a little longer.

The WAN Uptime is at 77 hours. This is what informs me that it has completed.

You should be able to achieve a little more on your connection, according o the Line Attenuation, but the noise margins are in line with you getting the most from your Sky Broadband connection. The tool on this site indicates that you should be able to achieve between 9mb to 10mb.

      Some simple questions for you:

Are you connected via the Master Socket?

Could you take your stats from the Test Socket and post them please?

Can you perform the test using just the short grey ADSL lead supplied with the Sky router and a microfilter. Whilst using the test socket can you also confirm that all the extensions are dead please.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

      Re: Low speed

O2 use a lower defualt noise margin, as you might know, this can make over 1Mb difference in the sync speed. That said you should gget a bit more if you follow Scubbie's hints.

      Hi,

It is connected to the master socket, and the test socket within. There are no extensions and the supplied ADSL lead and microfilter are in use.

Good. As occasionally it can make a difference, could you plug the microfilter directly into the test socket and post the stats please?

      Re: Low speed

I think that you have got the best that you are going to from Sky then.

As Tom has mentioned, the default settings used for O2 differ from Sky and this can make a difference.

Your noise margins do not appear to offer any room for improvement IMHO. Sky's target is 7dB on both the upstream & downstream. I do not think that there is any room for improving the speed on the upstream in your case due to the different line speed settings available.

Sadly there are some issues with BT Openreach at present. Due to the scale of copper theft they are often using copper coated aluminium cable now, instead of solid copper cable now. It is possible that you have been moved to this cable in the transfer

Also the newest Sky router (Sagem 2504N) appears to be reporting slightly lower Line Attenuations, without the attributed speed improvement, in some instances.

The only thing left would be for you to install a filtered faceplate. This would tidy up your telephone socket. It may improve the speed a little as the electronics in filtered faceplates are normally superior to those in microfilters. They will also last longer.
