      Disconnections after Sky+ HD installation

      Hi,

Had a engineer come round and install the Sky+ HD box.

I noticed him bringing the dish cable from the back of the house, over the roof and then drill a hole in the sitting room.

Now a few hours later, the broadband has slowed down a lot making it impossible to browse much.

I checked the stats and this is what it's showing:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5472 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.0 db 28.5 db
Noise Margin 11.8 db 15.0 db

I'm not sure if the Sky+ installation is related but this is the first time in a while that the broadband has started playing up.

I have restarted the router many times and the noise margin ranges from 11.7 to 12.0

      Many thanks.

Has he connected Sky tv up to any telephone socket?

How many telephone sockets do you use?
Are there filters connected properly into each socket?
The router in the master socket or an extension socket?
Using the short grey dsl cable Sky provided to the router, or an extension cable?

Sky box is connected to the socket downstairs and it has a filter.

3 sockets which are currently live (2 sockets = 1 number and another socket is a separate number) The broadband is connected to the separate number.

I presume its a extension socket but its a separate number.

      Sky cable.

Btw, the speed has not changed, only the noise margin.

How is it connected to the socket, though? There will likely be a 'splitter' (a little two-way blank white box) that will have been fitted. If you can explain exactly how the filter, splitter, tv cable etc. connects to the socket.

Speed as in what it says on the router, but the actual loading of pages is very very slow.

      Yes, there is a splitter.

There is a ADSL filter connecting to the telephone box.

The the splitter is connected to the ADSL filter.

Then the phone and Sky box cable is connected to the splitter.

Sounds like the splitter is connected correctly. I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the socket and numbers. Do you mean you have two different lines/numbers to the property?

Do you have a test socket that you can connect the router to?

      That's right. Let me explain:

      1st number:
There is a socket downstairs which has the Sky TV connected to it.
There is a socket upstairs for a telephone (so people upstairs can pick the phone up)

      2nd number:
The Sky broadband is assigned to that. I have fitted a ADSL Faceplate Filter on that.

This problem only started today and I believe its related to the Sky+ HD installation.

On the 2nd numbers socket, I remember it was a master socket as it had the split frontplate but, the socket downstairs on the 1st number also has a spilt frontplate.
