      constant disconnections and crackling line

      hi all, got all my products through sky, the service has been awesome and fast, but i have a problem with my broadband and phone, i have crackling noise, kind of sounds like fax machine and keep getting constant disconnections on broadband,when the phone is picked up or a call comes in, contacted sky and they got straight back to me, they told me to test my master socket but the trouble is mine is not the split type master socket, i have an old gpo phone line which has been in this house for 25-30 years,just wondering whether this could be the problem and what do i have to do to get an up to date line and socket fitted?? who do i contact?? any help would be awesome and appreciated (because battlefield 3 is out soon and i dont wanna miss out lol),seriously though it is doing my head in!!

      also forgot to mention i am currently under the dlm period of leaving my modem on so sky can tweak the connection,could this be a factor as well??

      Have you tried just the phone at the master socket, with no other sockets in use or equipment on the circuit? If so, and you still get a crackling, then call Sky and report the fault. It'll be logged to Openreach and they'll do what needs done.

      Edit: Just seen the above post. No, DLM will not cause crackling.

      Quick note: if you can hear a noise like a fax machine, your microfilter may be faulty. It may be worth changing it. The ones supplied by Sky vary in their quality. A filtered faceplate is the best long-term investment IMHO.

      Resolve the crackling noise first though.

      thanks for the advice,i changed all my filters as a pre caution and still the same problem,tested just the phone in the master socket with nothing else plugged in and was still crackling, just gave sky a ring and got a really helpful guy,he done a line test and the line to my house is ok so must be my out of date internal sockets,he has arranged an engineer to come out monday to check and repair so hopefully he will just put in a new master socket, i only need one down stairs in the hall, not tobothered about upstairs,hope this works!!!

      all sorted,open reach guy arrived this morning found a problem on the line,renewed master socket and all is fixed!! great service from sky and open reach very happy customer!!!
