Re: Stable connection but WAN uptime reconnects every day

Its weird, for the past hour the internet has been fine. But from around 7pm - 9.30 there was a disconnection every 5-10 minutes and that's not a common occurance, usually it would be one small drop every two days or so. I'm beginning to think that it could be something to do with the power in the whole street because right now we have quite a lot of electrical appliances running but its not causing a disconnect but then again my theory's on things are usually always incorrect

Sounds like you are having the same issue as me, I keep getting the drop in noise margin spikes you are having normally 100 times a day, however sometimes the drops are for longer, say around 10 seconds. If you get anywhere with you problem please can you let me know how!

      Here is my thread.

Internet keeps dropping connection, please help!

So I think it could be an electric thing, what's weird though is that this never happened when I was with AOL Broadband and used my Netgear D834G router
If you still have it, why not put your username and password into it and try it. You have tried just about everything else.

Oh I didn't know that was possible, yes I still have the D834G router but I was worried that I would get kicked off Sky Broadband if I used it.

The weird thing is the internet has been fine today, during the day and during this evening so it's really puzzled me

There are a great many using their own routers to connect to Sky.

Oh really? Is it like Sky+ though where you need it connected to a phone line for a year before you can disconnect. Would I have to use Sky's router for a certain amount of time before using my own?

It disconnected again today between 17:00 and 18:00 when no one was at home. there wasn't much electricity being used at that time either. Not sure if this is worth anything but heres the log

I'm beginning to think it could be a fault with the Sky router because like I said in my other post, when I was with AOL Broadband for over 5 years, I was getting the same speeds, everything was setup in exactly the same location and I'd only really get a connection drop once or twice a month (and usually that was on AOL's end) The only difference being the router was a Netgear D834Gv3.

If I was to experiment with swapping the router, Is there anyway Sky can see if I am using my own one? I really wouldn't want them disconnecting me from their service because I love having the unlimited use and no other ISP provide it.

There are some who have used their own router from Day 1.

Sky can check if you are using their router, but provided you don't ask for help in setting it up or when you have problems with it, they do not seem to bother if you use your own.

Re: Stable connection but WAN uptime reconnects every day

Hey guys, just an update. I thought things had improved but the same is still happening, it happens either every night or if I'm lucky every 2 days but the WAN uptime will reset to 0:00 and the connection will drop for about a minute before resyncing.

Even though I've had Sky Broadband since September and DLM originally took place during the first week of service, about 2 weeks ago I logged into My Sky and found that DLM had taken place yet again and set my line to 4.1Mbps.

      Here are my stats as of tonight;

      System Up Time: 215:04:43
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN MER 2993839 12494428 0 881 2773 16:38:19

      WLAN Up 5000479 3032867 0 2317 517 215:04:22
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4094 kbps 796 kbps
Line Attenuation 55.0 dB 32.9 dB
Noise Margin 6.4 dB 9.8 dB

It looks like DLM has kick in and retrained your line. You speed is not too bad for your attenuation, but if it is dropping a lot, it may benefit from being put on G.DMT. Give Sky a call and ask if they can try your connection on G.DMT(ADSL1) as you are getting a lot of drop outs.

Re: Stable connection but WAN uptime reconnects every day

Its started again, The line seems to drop at around the same time every night which is shortly after midnight. Annoyingly every time I've asked to be put on G.DMT, DLM starts again and its not long before I'm back on ADSL2+.

      Here are my stats;

Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN MER 8123 7310373 0 471 6005 0:21:47
      LAN Down 0 0 0 0 0 99:19:34
      WLAN Up 3313263 2063224 0 6005 788 99:19:13
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
      Connection Speed 4092*kbps 796*kbps
      Line Attenuation 55.0*dB 23.1*dB
      Noise Margin 6.8*dB 9.7*dB

I suppose its worth me mentioning that the router is plugged in to an extension socket upstairs. Is it possible the nightly dropouts will stop if I use the master socket downstairs (Ideally I wouldn't like to as we have little ones around who like to test out how well built electronic equipment is these days)
