It will not matter if anything is connected to the WLAN, as long as it is enabled in the router it should be broadcasting and continue to do so even with the ADSL disconected.

So if the WLAN drops as I suspect it will as I think it has been, what would this suggest and what would be the solution?

I suspect it wont. I think the wireless connection dropping is causing the WAN to drop. If the figures show it does not drop, try disabling the wireless for a while and see if the WAN stops dropping. If it does drop, it still suggests a router problem as the WLAN has nothing to do with the WAN and should not drop.

When you do the test, do it by using the Connection Status button on the Status page, click the Disconnect button. This will disconnect you and zero the figure against the WAN uptime. Removing the ADSL plug may not zero the uptime immediately, you may have to leave it out for a long time. I have just confirmed this on my own connection.
When you have done the test, press the Connect button to reconnect.

      System Up Time: 00:07:09
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 73 71 0 991 2430 00:00:08
      LAN 15165 12617 0 34718 4129 00:07:09

      Line Attenuation 50.5db 31.5db
      Noise Margin 15.1db 23.0db

However, 2 seconds after I took that, the stats went to this.

      System Up Time: 00:07:52
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN PPPoA 315 319 0 718 3285 00:00:51

Connection Speed 2592 kbps 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation 50.5db 31.5db
      Noise Margin 15.1db 23.0db

WLAN reset after the WAN had reset. I will now try disabling the WLAN and monitoring the problem.

Another BT engineer is coming on Wednesday to take a look. Only 10 drops so far tonight.

Re: Internet keeps dropping connection, please help!

So the WLAN did not drop with the WAN, but dropped on its own. This should be good enough to get a replacement router if you tell Sky the wireless is not working properly..

Thanks, I will see what the engineer says on Wednesday and mention it to him. Only 40 drops last night as opposed to 60 on Thursday.

Do you have a PSU from another router that has the same power specs?

If so, could you try using it as it is possible that you have a faulty router or PSU.
