Just called sky, someone will ring tomorrow to book for another engineer visit (engineer number 4) to check and possibly perform a shift and lift.

Re: Internet keeps dropping connection, please help!

My problem now seems to have changed. What is now happening is the @ light is turning orange, and getting stuck solid orange. The router won't resync on it's own and I have to reboot. The stats when this happen are also interesting.

      System Up Time: 18:00:43
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN MER/PPPoA 0 0 0 0 0 0:00:00
      LAN Up 1823 1588 0 1106564 323521 18:00:43
      WLAN Up 215 180 0 103094 21737 18:00:24
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2272 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 dB 31.5 dB
Noise Margin 8.0 dB 27.0 dB

My downstream noise margin goes down to 8. Router stats lite still gets data from the router, the router is still responding and the LAN and WLAN times continue to increase, but the WAN is stuck on 0. As i speak it is doing it again, now with minus downstream noise margin.

      System Up Time: 0:06:23
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
      WAN MER/PPPoA 0 0 0 0 0 0:00:00
      LAN Up 4496 3713 0 3201624 582523 0:06:23
      WLAN Up 305 200 0 132010 23747 0:06:04
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2272 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 dB 31.5 dB
Noise Margin -0.3 dB 27.0 dB

The WAN won't reset but the LAN and WLAN continue to update. The @ light is solid orange on the router and I will have to reboot it.

      Any ideas?

Does anyone know what the solid orange @ light means exactly and why it won't resync?

A Solid Amber Light means that the router is unable to sync with the Sky Servers. You can try resetting the router (switch it off for 10 seconds and power it on again).

Personally I believe that you have something seriously wrong with your connection somewhere and I am a little out of my depth in order to be able to suggest a reasonable solution.

All I can suggest is that someone more knowledgeable than myself on this forum can jump in and provide something better for you to try.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

Re: Internet keeps dropping connection, please help!

Thanks for the reply again. That is what I have been doing just turning the router on and off every time it does it but this becomes tedious when I'm having to do it 5 or so times a day. My connection is way better than it was but it still shouldn't be doing this! Sky are ringing back tonight, maybe that lift and shift will have to be done after all. If it was that I have a terrible phone line what are the chances BT would replace my line all the way from the exchange to my house?

Somewhere between zero and none at all. Your line goes back to the exchange in a cable which contains dozens of line pairs. If there is a spare pair they may swap you to it, but there is no guarantee that this would fix your problem. I think it is after you get to the exchange you problem begins.

There is an outside chance that you have a DNS problem which is causing you to disconnect from the Sky servers. To check this, give your PC a fixed address with named DNS servers. You could try 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 which are the OpenDNS servers.

Are they settings I can change in my router myself? Would this proposed shift and lift solve that problem? I am hoping for some sort of compensation from sky, but my chances of that are probably somewhere between zero and none too.

Not in your Sky router. You have to change the settings in your PC from Obtain automatically to manual.

They may give you a credit for a couple of months broadband, but that's about all, meanwhile your fibre cabinet is filling up.

I will have a go later on! I'll sort the fibre out in good time, just want sky to do what they say first, it's the principle of it, I'm not letting them win!
