It appears they are following TalkTalk's lead and only selling the broadband and phone as a package. As for downtime, if you have BT rental at the moment then the switch over of the rental should only lead to less than an hours downtime. Mine only took a few minutes.

There are offers on at the moment for half price broadband and rental for 3/4/6 months. Might also be worth looking at Quidco, there is 50 cashback for taking broadband and Talk.

With these stats, can anyone hazard a guess as to what my speeds might be on Sky unlimited?

Provided that your home telephone wiring doesn't hold you back, then you should expect to get the full 20Mb connection with that attenuation.

If you have any telephone extensions hard wired into the master socket, then please consider getting a filtered faceplate.

Sky User - Which ADSL Faceplate Filter?

Edit: I've just realised that you are currently on ADSL. The Line Attenuation will rise a little, but you should still be set for close to the full 20Mb connection.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

      Re: moving to sky llu

I would say there is something wrong with your line, either internal or external. With your attenuation you should be syncing at the full speed for your package with a healthy noise margin. The fact that you are not means something is amiss. If you have a Test socket plug your router in using only the ADSL cable, no telephone extensions and post your stats.

See How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket

Yes I'm sure my set up is not ideal, with the master socket by the front door and the router in the bedroom at the end of a long cable, with a couple of phones and filters in between.Might be worth moving things around a bit.

      Re: moving to sky llu

ADSL2+ puts a lot more 'strain' on your connection than ADSLMax, if you are changing to Sky you would be well advised to sort out your set up before you move. If you don't you will not get the full benefit.

      Re: moving to sky llu

Already have an adsl faceplate on order, and will connect the router to that, rather than sharing several meters of telephone wire and filters.
Tomorrow I plan to connect the router to the test socket, and will post the results.
