      Your connection speed looks fine for your line length. You have about a 14Mb download speed, but your upload is slow (0.8Mb). However there isn't a huge improvement available from those figures. This can all be a normal consequence of being placed on the Gamer's Profile, so I wouldn't worry too much just yet.

      How is your router connected to your telephone line? i.e. are you using the master socket or an extension?; microfilter or filtered faceplate?

      What device are you using for on-line games?

      How is it connected to your router? i.e. WiFi, Ethernet Cable, HomePlugs

      Yes, if you were a lot nearer the exchange you could get 100%, as some do. See Scubbie's stats and compare them to yours

      Use Insider to find the channels in use and set yours as far from them as possible. If all the main channels are in use,1,6,11, try channel 13.

      Re: Can i improve my connection any chance

      Gaming using the router you have is not particularly brilliant over the WiFi connection.

      Since you are using a Laptop to play the games, I would be inclined to double check that it isn't connecting via WiFi when you are playing games. If you could disable the WiFi then this would ensure that this is the case.

      Different Laptops use different methods. For example you may have a switch or button to disable your WiFi or it may involve you pressing the <Fn> key in combination with the Function Key with the Wireless symbol printed on it.

      On this Laptop I am using I need to press the <FN> button, then press <F8> twice to turn the WiFi off. To turn it on again I repeat the process. If I just press <FN> <F8> I can check the status.

      As for changing your channel on the router & using inSSIDer, these can be useful if you have other issues with your WiFi. It is a topic that is often discussed on this forum.

      Essentially run inSSIDer whilst the WiFi adaptor is enabled and take a look at the tab for '2.4 GHz Channels'. Your router will be visible and you will be able to see if your router is using a channel with the fewest other routers on.

      The default settings will mean that your router is set to 'Auto' for the WiFi channel, so this could change.

      If you would like to swap it to another channel, then you will need to go through the following process:

      Look at the 'Time Graph' on inSSIDer & make a note of the typical value range for the signal strength of your router. Include the strongest value.

      Open your browser and type '192.168.0.1' in the address line.
      When asked for your Username & Password, use the following details:

      Username = admin
      Password = sky

      Note: Lowercase letter only.

      Click on the 'Setup' tab. Scroll down to where the channel is shown and change it as required.

      Typically we recommend that you use either channels 1, 6, 11 or 13. Occasionally some members have had to use the other channels, but these tend to interfere with the main ones.

      Once you have changed the channel, use inSSIDer to see if there is any improvement in your signal strength.

      thank you scubbie, for your help. i will let you know what happens. : )

      I game on the xbox 360. i badly. sometimes i have to take out the ethernet cable because of the mess it causes. when people come over, i have to use wireless. distance from my router is around 10-15m , there is nothing that could possible interfere.

      From reading the experiences of other Xbox owners, the router that you have isn't particularly good for playing the Xbox over WiFi.

      The same is true for all but the most recent Sky router (Sagem 2504N). This has to be checked out first though.

      Gaming and wireless don't mix. Too much lag. There's no fix.
