      Connection problems.....

Can anyone help out here please? Recently switched to Sky and having problems with connection. It dis-connects EVERYTIME phone is in use and also dis-connects randomly.

I called the sky tech line earlier n they have refered me to this forum.

The sky modem is hard wired to pc, using wifi to connect to tv, telephone line is an extention cable from main telephone box (15 metres) with filter fitted at modem end and connected to modem. We also use wifi for laptop and xbox with same results.. Random disconnection..

      Any ideas pls?

is the modem at the end of the extension if so it really needs to be connected to the master socket with a 15 Ethernet cable to your PC

and just to be sure if you are comfortable with a screwdriver take of the faceplate of your BT socket's and remove the cable connected to pin 3 (normally orange) this is the bell wire and was only really used for the old dial phones, doing this will reduce noise on your line meaning the exchange will see a healthy sync connection and up your download speed

a BT socket really only needs pins 2 & 5 connected so any others can be removed

      Re: Connection problems.....

If you have a TEST socket, plug in there using only the ADSL cable supplied by Sky. Take your Stats and post them. There is a good chance your internal wiring is interfering with your signal.

If you still get drop outs from the internet, you may have a fault on your external line.

      Re: Connection problems.....

Buy & fit an NTE5 socket, plug the router into the test socket, if you still have problems then you have a line fault. If you have extensions in the house then it makes sense to fit a filtered faceplate too.
