Really slow after line rental transfer

Hi I have moved over from BT line rental to Sky. I have Sky Connect due to rural location and prior to the move could recieve about 1.35MB wireless speed let alone wired.

However since the date of transfer to sky line rental my speed has droped to 0.08 at best 0.68!!!

I asked the question would the transfer alter my line speed and Sky said no but I have stats to prove it has!!

      Prior to 9th Aug 2011 I would get 1.35MB wireless and 1.7 -1.9MB wired

Now I only get 0.08 wirelss at best 0.6, and 0.24 wired!!!

      What can this be?

It is hard to see what has happened as you are on exactly the same line and equipment as you were on before. All that has happened is that you pay your rental to Sky instead of BT. Call Sky, jump through the trouble-shooting hoops and ask to be escalated to the team that looks after BT connections.

They may be able to do nothing. as BT's DLM system works a lot better than Sky's and will automatically increase your speed when you line is stable, but it may need a reset.

Thanks fir the reply. I stated before moving would it affect my speed and they said no, it obviously has. I will speak to 2nd tier and if they cannot resolve I will ask to be reinstated with BT at their cost!!

As I said, there is no difference in your line. It is possible BT have nobbled it out of spite, but Sky have nothing to do with your line or the exchange equipment. It is also possible that you have had a fault on your line which has caused the speed to be reduced, if this is the case it will right itself in a few days.

Re: Really slow after line rental transfer

I have been monitoring the speed since switching to SKY and here are my stats, hardly broadband!!

Every month I have been checking my speed since Feb 2011.

I constantly got 1.3 - 1.4MB wireless and obviously more for wired

My current speeds for the following dates are:

      10 Aug 0.68
      12 Aug 0.08
      13 Aug 0.12
      14 Aug 0.09

I will demaning a return to BT in next few minutes

Re: Really slow after line rental transfer

I am afraid wireless download speeds mean little. They are susceptible to so many types of interference. Can you go to this site and do a wired speed test, then do a wireless one and post the results.
Sky User - Broadband Speed Tester

You could also go to the Official BT Speedtest site and do a test there. This will also show your profile, which may be stuck.

Re: Really slow after line rental transfer

      Hi,
Here are the results running the BT tester

Download speedachieved during the test was - 106 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
      Additional Information:
      Your DSL Connection Rate :1088 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps

I have been escalated to CST with sky now and they are going to ask BT to do a line reset...

Here is the SKY User data

      14 August, 2011 20:37:15 128 Kbps 362 Kbps

Re: Really slow after line rental transfer

As I have said many times on here, when the basic home settings have been checked Connect problems should be escalated to BT immediately. Sky can do nothing about it and it should be passed to BT who can, they are being paid plenty by you, through Sky, to ensure that you have a good connection. Too often users are passed from pillar to post and simply fobbed off by agents who could not care less

I have to contact them again tomorrow at 4pm to see if anything had changed!! Sky said that I would be happy with 1mb then, I said no and that I was getting 1.7 - 2 before the change!!! Cheeky buggers!!

Re: Really slow after line rental transfer

I now have an engineer coming out this Monday, don't know what they will do. If it does not improve from then on I will be switching line rental and broadband to BT.
