      Newly activated and logging speeds

      Hi,

My line and broadband were activated yesterday (migrated from O2) so I thought I'd come here to report line speeds and get advice.

      With O2, I was getting around a 14-16Mbps connection.

Oddly, the My Sky page reports that line testing is not in progress.....so I called up and was told it is. We'll see, I guess!

12/08/2011 update: Line limit manually raised, by Sky, to 18mbps and DLM expected to start in 24 hours.

Here are the router stats so far (it's a D-Link DSL-2640S):

It can take 3 days or so before the DLM kicks in so don't fret.

Remember it is the WAN uptime you need to check, not the System time

Be patient, you will soon be flying along at 16Mb+.

I am in the same position (WAN up time +72hrs) - thing is, new subscribers expect the 10 days to run from the date of Activation not from whatever time DLM kicks in, when Sky deem it appropriate to start it.

I have just rung them - they say that as soon as you login to your new service, a request for DLM testing is requested. By whom? To Whom? Who controls this? They did say it will happen within a couple of days, so if it doesn't happen tomorrow then it's going to be next week - my activation date was the 8th so if next week, then the 10 day testing period will be exceeded by a good margin - not good

That is what you would think. I have no idea why it does not start immediately, you would think all it would require is a button to be clicked. It could be it is an automated thing that only starts in batches. I don't remember it taking so long to start to begin with, most started within 24hours, with just the odd one taking a bit longer. Maybe one of the Skybods on the forum could throw some light on it.

Re: Newly activated and logging speeds

Being always a little sceptical on advertising these days, I would guess that as Sky BB has taken on so many users in a rather short period of time, this has perhaps put pressure on their technical systems. What worries me is that at some point in time, Sky will throttle whatever download speed I end up with because of high volumes of users - this will remain to be seen, for now "Unlimited" is I gather just that - "Unlimited" and not throttled in any way, unless you are a Sky Connect Customer, which I am not.

Re: Newly activated and logging speeds

There was a system 'hiccup' earlier this year. This caused DLM not to kick in for new customers automatically.

Otherwise the longest I've witnessed on this forum is for DLM to occur on the 4th night after your connection has gone live.

If you are unsure, post your full connection stats, including the up times.

The starting of DLM is automated, so any 'hiccup' will be in the computer systems, not a human. A friendly call will get it working. However as the first tier aren't always clued up of everything and will probably just provide standard set responses, you may need to insist on speaking with a supervisor or manager to get it kick started.
