    Reprofile or Reconfigure?

This is a discussion on Reprofile or Reconfigure? within the Sky Broadband help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; As the title suggests, Reprofile or Reconfigure... are these 2 the same thing... or not? If Reprofiling - are there ...

      Reprofile or Reconfigure?

As the title suggests, Reprofile or Reconfigure...

are these 2 the same thing... or not?

If Reprofiling - are there various "profiles" available and if so, what are they? I've read about the "Gamer" profile, but are there any others?

If reconfiguring - is this the same as running DLM and is it always an automated process or can there be a manual intervention? If so, how does this work?

Can someone please explain in a little bit of detail what these are/how they work?

Why not think of all your questions and put them in one thread??

Anyway, reprofile/reconfigure are the same thing - different people use different terms

Because I thought it would help when others were searching again using Key Terms.

So are there different "profiles" available? (e.g. When people speak of the "gaming profile"? Are there any others?)

And if asking to be reprofiled/reconfigured, how does one go about it and what specifically needs to be requested...

Do you need to provide a sync speed that you want to be reconfigured/reprofiled to?

And what other settings need to be discussed that can be reconfigured (interleaving/sync/noise margin etc.)?

      Re: Reprofile or Reconfigure?

Right, you're looking far too deep into this...

There are 2 connection types - SVBN and DSLAM

SVBN runs on a small selection of preset profiles - these set speeds, interleving depth, SNR levels

The DSLAM connections can have it's settings set independent of each other

The term reprofile/reconfigure is interchangeable and depending on who you speak to they'll use one or the other - there's no difference

      Re: Reprofile or Reconfigure?

If you are a gamer, ask to be put on a gamer profile. Basically, this will reduce the INP* delay on your connection to 8, which relates to about 2 milliseconds. This means that less time is allowed to correct errors, meaning that with a 'gamer profile' there is more chance of getting errors on your line. This is why, quite often, the sync speed must be reduced, giving the impression that the line is not getting as much speed as it should. Non gamers will be on an INP delay of 16/32/64, depending on the condition of their line, which allows more time for error correction, thus a more stable connection.
      *INP = Impulse Noise Protection.

      Re: Reprofile or Reconfigure?

INP and delays are 2 separate settings

INP can be Auto, one-symbol or two-symbol, delays can be 8, 16 or 32

I'm only a casual gamer, so I want the exact opposite, so is 32 or 64 a good suggestion?

What is the default set at?

Can you explain, what do you mean with INP when you say "Auto, one-symbol or two-symbol"?

What's the one-symbol, two symbol thing? Example?

It will be set to what your line can handle. If you are not a gamer then just leave things as they are.

Heavy INP can be applied on noisy / erratic lines. Can help stability, but will in turn reduce sync speed.

Default is INP to Auto, delays to 32 - Gamer profile (on SVBN) would be Auto/8
