      Basic Package Speed

I am trying to sort my Dad's connection speed out. He has the basic package and was told the maximum speed he could expect was 1.0 mb (I get faster than that on my smart phone!)

However after using speedtest he gets:

I checked the router details and it states:

      ROUTER STATUS
      Firmware Version 2.8Sky
      ADSL Port

      LAN Port

      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version A2pB023o.d20h
      Modem Status Up
      DownStream Connection Speed 512
      UpStream Connection Speed 382
      VPI 0
      VCI 38
      Wireless Port
      Name (SSID) SKY12989
      Region Europe
      Current Channel 1
      Wireless AP enable
      Broadcast Name SKY12989

Is it worth going through phoning customer services to see if I can get it any faster?

      Than you

      Re: Basic Package Speed

You need the router stats that include the attenuation & noise margins.

Also if you can edit out MAC & IP Addresses & the wireless details in your post. Better still just remove the "code".

      Re: Basic Package Speed

      Ahh, sorry about that.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 504 kbps 493 kbps
Line Attenuation 60.5 db 35.9 db
Noise Margin 6.5 db 10.0 db

      Is that information correct?

Better, but confirms the line is a long one. You should be able to get 1-2Mbps out of it though

      Re: Basic Package Speed

I got 0.48 using a wired connection to the router. So Should I prepare myself for a fight with customer services?

Using Samknows, it linked me to other providers and TALK TALK says I should get upto 2.4mb.

      Re: Basic Package Speed

first thing is to try in the test socket with no extension leads in use (assuming you have a test socket)

How to test your ADSL in the Master Test Socket

Then repost stats, with noise margin/attenuations, and we'll go from there
