      Sky Broadband Not Working. Awful Sky Service

      My Sky Broadband had been working brilliantly for over three years, then on Thursday it stopped working. I called Sky and went through the usual diagnostics with them (replaced micro-filter,etc) I would point out that my phone line is working. After the diagnostics they agreed to escalate and I was told by a manager, Kumar that someone would call me on Saturday and arrange an engineers visit. Nobody called even though I waited in all day!

      I have read all the nightmare stories on this site and have a gut feeling that this problem is going to drag on and on. Does anyone have any suggestions what I should do or should I just prepare for shoddy offshore customer service along with the usual lies?

      What symptoms do you have?

      Have you tried testing your connection with another ADSL2+ router? (it doesn't have to connect to Sky's Servers, just enough to get some stats)

      Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro: Connected at 80,000 kbps / 20,000 kbps
      Previous ADSL2+ Speed 19999 kbps 1153 kbps, Line Attenuation 17.5 db 6.9 db, Noise Margin 7.5 dB 8.7 dB
      Speedtest: 17.15MB/s 0.97Mb/s Ping 31 ms

      Thanks for your response. I get different lights on the Sky router everytime I switch it on and off or reset it. I have a feeling the router is faulty.

      I'm not at all technical but I don't suppose I can plug my broadband into my Apple Time Machine can I?

      I have no idea what you are referring to as your 'Apple Time Machine'.

      I essence though, if you could borrow any ADSL2+ router from someone else, then you could rule in or rule out the possibility of a router failure.

      If it is another Sky router, then it should be able to connect if everything else is fine too. Do ensure that you swap the PSU as well as these can sometimes fail too.

      As for Sky, I would also recommend that you call them again today. Often on a weekend you'll get some less knowledgeable people, but they are friendly and very willing to help.

      Apple Time Machine is a NAS Device i believe (or a witty Time Travel Joke) if the idea was to try backup the router with the Time Travel Device then no this would not work, try doing a complete factory reset of the router rather than reboots to rule out any existing Firmware issues.
