Because of the way the Wifi spectrum works wifi channels overlap. The only non-overlapping channels are 1,6 and 11.

Channel 2 is quite famous for stability too. Try different channels and see if it improves your download speed.

Channel 2 was not being used by anyone in the vicinity so tried it and it is now giving me same speeds as Ethernet.

Noise still the same but signal average/max has increased to around 60%

Does it matter if I am using g & b on the router?

Tried again downloading the test file and the speeds have dropped to around 500KB/sec. Will run through the channels

That is the key. Your signal strength will be the highest on the clearest channel. So that's sorted. If you want more speed you can ring Sky to have your line uncapped.

If all your devices have a card that supports 'g' then go ahead and switch the mode to 'g only' on the router. 'B' is more prone to interference from cordless phones and microwaves so if you can avoid it.. Why not..

Anything that Sky say should not be taken seriously. Ring them again and tell them to set your target noise margin to 7db. I think it's set to 9db at the moment. Also ask them to improve your upload speed.

If you call now chances are you might speak to CST directly.

If they give you the same nonsense again hang up and ring back till you find somebody sensible.

On hold for 15 minutes. I give up for tonight

After thirty minutes waiting and ten minutes talking, Sky keep on saying I am on the correct profile but do not want to tell me what profile I am on. asked them to confirm 20M/1.3M/7db but they are not having it. Will see who else provides BB where I live

Plug your router into the test socket and then post your stats.

You are showing an uptime of nearly a thousand hours, so it may be time to reset your router. Do this by switching off the power for a minute then switch it on again. You may find your speed goes up. Sky's Line Management is very good at dropping the speed if there is a line problem, but it is not so good at putting it back up. You have to reboot your router when the noise margin is above 7 to do that.

Same speeds via WIFI and Ethernet

Sky tell me I am actually receiving 6.5Mbps
